Re: Help with PM2 Rev 2.1

You can just put solder down both sides of that 8 pin IC, whip the iron from one side to the next quickly and just flick it off the board. Thats what make the PM2 such a great monitor, you can easily replace all the parts on the board. Try removing and soldering some of the later devices like the BG...

Re: Help with PM2 Rev 2.1

C10 will not be the problem. Have you got the plus and minus 3V from the 1044 ? Put you meter across the two yellow tantalums C10 and C11 observing the polarity of the capacitors. When the 1044 fails it drops the -3V output. The LCD display requires an AC supply of +3V and -3V and will not come on w...

Re: Help with PM2 Rev 2.1

1. I now replace C9 in the later versions of the PM2 because its the wrong capacitance. Earlier versions used a tant here and it should be 10uF and not the 1uF installed and then you will see the negative Voltage from the 1044 go from -2.77V to -2.99 or even -3.00V. 2: Check you have continuity betw...

Re: what if we quit weight lifting and go on with rowing

You will be in good shape to progress on with rowing but what you will find initially is that your cardio system falls over. You can have a lot of strength but very little endurance. Weight lifting is short duration high intensity and you don't lift weights for minutes to 30 minutes non stop. You wi...

Re: PM3 For Sale

Is that Aussie dollars? NZ dollars? Singapore dollars? HK dollars? Canadian dollars? Or some other denomination? Because if that's American dollars it's way overpriced. For USD$180 I can have a PM5 which has a whole lot of better features. You make it clear about once a week that Americans (USA var...

Re: PM3 For Sale

Also depends on if its a Gen 1 or a Gen 2 PM3, the newer version made after mid 2008 is still a good reliable monitor, the early versions are now pretty worthless. People never update the firmware on them either, you can look in the product ID screen for the version.

Re: Heart-Rate Recovery as a fitness indicator?

It's a useful metric but not to compare yourself to others just to yourself. Obviously as your fitness improves your HR decay curve is steeper and drops closer to your resting HR faster. I used to find 2 minutes was better it allowed the HR to plateau and show a decent fall.

Re: Heart-Rate Recovery as a fitness indicator?

Thinking about it, the recovery time function would now be better added to ErgData and not the PM5. The screen resolution is much better on your smartphone. Using only a stopwatch is a pain, for starters you loose seconds at the start and you have to monitor it. This is no good because after a sessi...

Re: Shock chord too tight?

Your Model C did not come from a CrossFit gym did it ? A number of gyms fit a shock cord that is NOT the one sold by Concept 2. You can buy aftermarket cord and the elasticity is not the same, in fact some of the gyms fit stronger cords so that it compensates for very high ratings, poor technique an...

Re: Heart-Rate Recovery as a fitness indicator?

Yes it's great I posted here years ago that Concept 2 should have the function on the PM5. It has the graph of the HR decay and the timer ability that can start automatically at the completion of your row. It's useful but only for comparison between similar rows of length and intensity. The longer y...

Re: Heart rate concern

Mmmm a brand I have never heard of.

Currently using the Garmin soft strap version. I do like the hard version but the case fails after a battery change or two and sweat gets in and its stuffed.

Re: Heart rate concern

As above you have not mentioned what HR equipment your using. The old Polar stuff was suceptable to electrical interference and could display 220 for no reason. I'm using Garmin ANT+ gear direct to the PM5 and no issues so yes if I suddenly saw something over 190 I would be freaking out.

Re: PM5 mounting hardware size

Its 9/16" or 9/16th of an inch socket.

The best setup is the head of the bold in that hex recess on the right hand side and put one of the new Concept 2 adjustable knobs on the left hand side of it (sitting on the Erg). No spanners or sockets required.

Re: Did my first 30 minute session. How to make sense of erg data?

What do you want to know ? Basically ErgData gives you ability to work out your strokes per minute or spm more accurately and is an easy way to get a verified row uploaded to your logbook. Your spm was 24.2spm for the 30 minutes so if you want to do a 30R20 then the target is 600 strokes total. Your...
