Re: Junk volume..?

You learned what you needed to learn from this 3x5k. You went out too fast on the first and then suffered the result. That's your lesson. No need to make it worse by forcing the 3rd interval. You were probably fatigued enough for your form to be pretty poor anyway. Strength coaches do tend to play d...

Re: Deadlift injury....well, it had to happen eventually...

Injury is inevitable when training. That's especially true when someone trains as hard as you must with your solid erg times. Before I dig into my thoughts, let me tell you that I wish you a speedy recovery. I would like to provide a rebuttal to this pervasive myth that the hex bar is a safer moveme...

Re: What do people think about personalised training plans?

Yes, my advice is to not purchase a personalized plan. Focus on improving your form/technique. As a novice (new rower), you will see improvement from the simplest movements. Row in front of a mirror and get your form to match the Concept2 videos as closely as possible. For initial workout ideas, use...

Re: C_Breeze

I didn't realize they still made those. I have one sitting around somewhere. I think your concern with taking it on and off is valid. I took it off and forgot about it. It would be nice to have on a hot/humid day, but I never remember to put it on. I wouldn't 't leave it on in the winter simply beca...

Re: Ergo shoes and ergo gloves

I was a dentist I wouldn't ever give someone a hard time for wearing gloves unless they asked me what I thought. However, I do row with a doctor that wears gloves for the same reason you do. He's a fine man and an example of a quality exception to the norm. I could name all the exception to every b...

Re: Ergo shoes and ergo gloves

That statement comes off as both rude and harsh. Just because someone rows without gloves doesn't mean that everyone should do so as well. Wearing gloves, shoes, or whatever when rowing is a personal preference based solely on an individual's needs. Only the indivudual can make such choices. Advice...

Re: Appropriate intervals for weight loss

Weight loss is 100% about eating at a caloric deficit. ...and for some us, this caloric deficit is easier to maintain when the training doesn't make us hungry. Long, low intensity sessions don't make me hungry. Short, intensive sessions do. That's a solid point. I don't know how individualized this...

Re: 5km to 10 km training plan?

couple of notes.... Damper setting doesn't actually tell us anything AND I think you will be best served reading a bit about drag factor. Why? Drag factor is a number you can compare across any machine and you can setup any erg you use to be at the drag factor you like. It also helps for conversatio...

Re: Appropriate intervals for weight loss

Weight loss is 100% about eating at a caloric deficit. Seriously. Anything I type after this is just fluff. The Pete Plan is a respected training program. As you are a novice, you will benefit from the novice effect. This means just about anything you do will help you. I see no reason for that "anyt...

Re: Ergo shoes and ergo gloves

You don't row in gloves and anyone that argues shoes matter needs to refocus their energy on their training.
Sorry if this comes off as rude or harsh, but it shouldn't have taken this many comments for someone to tell you this.

Re: SpeedCoach vs. StrokeCoach

Nielsen-Kellerman makes both the SpeedCoach and StrokeCoach. The StrokeCoach is the cheapest. It tracks strokes per minute, total number of strokes, and total time rowing. It uses internal sensors and requires no wiring. If you can afford a SpeedCoach, I would pay for the upgrade. I personally have ...

Re: polarized sunglasses?

They are worth it. However, I bought $3.00 polarized sunglasses from Walmart and they worked just as good as any of my Oakley's and Ray Bans I've been buying the most expensive sunglasses that my local drug store sells. They cost $20-$30, are polarized, and get replaced often. In my opinion, buying...

Re: Bodyweight exercises to compliment C2?

You might consider one of those 100 Push Ups, 200 Sit Ups, and 200 Squats programs plus lots of planks... lots and lots of planks. I've been frequenting the bodyweight Reddit group and they make a few good arguments against the 100 push up type challenges. They feel they lead to injury and instead ...

I figure we're done or waiting for a rebirth. That likely requires someone to take some initiative. I don't honestly feel the desire myself. We had a good run. The bar was set pretty high.

With that last report, teammates, I bid you all adieu. I have enjoyed my time with the team, but I'm off to other waters. I wish you all the best in pursuing your dreams and goals, whether they be found in trekking over field and peak, sailing the choppy seas, or soaring on life's gusty winds. Gods...
