Re: Forum Flyers

2:38 - wow! You would be able to qualify for some (most?) of the major marathons as an elite, never mind the good-for-age categories!

Re: Forum Flyers

For me it will be difficult to lot a lot of meters. Yesterday I almost cut of the tip of one of my fingers of my right hand. Rowing will be on low level for some time. That sounds a bit scary Rolf - best of luck with recovery. Do pass on our best to Carel for his efforts when you see him (though ma...

Re: Forum Flyers

Hi Carel - great first post - welcome! You're C2 challenge and CTC contributions are most impressive. I'm interested in your running - what times were you achieving for the marathon, and did you try longer distances also ("ultras")? I've been trying to get into running recently (well since last Sept...

Re: Middle Back Pain/Tightness - What Am I Doing Wrong?

Also, when you’re driving off, you have to make sure you’re driving through the hips, with the core firmly engaged. Do not pull with arms/shoulders - keep them “loose”. Good demo here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=To1qBIHfx-0 (short version; note what the coach says at 1:05 - definitely worth try...

Re: Middle Back Pain/Tightness - What Am I Doing Wrong?

Hi - it looks to me like you are not rocking back over by using your pelvis i.e. your pelvis remains pointing too far back and you’re curving your back too much. Easier said than done, it requires work in flexibility and strength - hips, hamstrings, glutes. This video explains it, and also shows som...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Watched a video on the reverse pick drill last night and practiced it today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rndwB648yHo By focussing on keeping the body forward, and driving hard with the legs, first half slide, then full slide, it really gave a great feeling of the connection with the wheel. The f...

Re: Skierg pb thread

Thanks for the encouragement Steve. Yep, at my height and weight, I'm certainly not going to be breaking many records. As you say, I'm in it to build fitness, strength and form, and compete against myself. As well as the physical demands, certain workouts on both the rower and the skierg present gre...

Re: Forum Flyers

CTC on the rower tonight: 1: 3108m @ 2:24.7, 25spm 2: 3119m @ 2:24.2, 26spm Really poor. Had decided to go for 2:20 throughout the first interval, but after 5 mins, legs were really tired and shortly after, put the handle down. Decided to carry on at a reduced pace - 2:25 - and managed that to the e...

Terry did both his @1:57.3
Really good efforts. At least you left nothing in the tank Lindsay, which is what happens if you do what I did i.e. go too cautious on the 1st.

Thanks ... she had another one off incident about 18 months ago. A seizure. went through the whole hospital routine and they concluded it was a random event with no real reason as to why it happened. Apparently you are allowed one seizure in your life. When you have a second they start getting seri...

Re: Forum Flyers

Tonight: 10km, 49:31.8, 2:28.5, 23 average spm. First row for me over 30 min / 6182m. Have entered it in the IRL for now - don't know if I'll make another attempt this month - might do. Ended up rowing it with conflicting objectives: primarily wanted to do some steady-moderate training (UT2/UT1); bu...

Re: Forum Flyers

Tried a 30' steady state row on Saturday: was supposed to be a 18 - 22 rate experiment, hoping to work in the aerobic HR bands. Found the rates at 20 and below just too difficult. Was struggling with the pause / recovery stage. Also, may have had the drag too high (111) for me at 18spm: could really...
