Re: Newbie trying to lose weight

Regular rowing and not overdoing it once you find it getting easier. Check out the Workout of the Day as variety helps keep you motivated and take part in Concept2 challenges, team and individual!

Lower Back Pain

What are common reasons for lower back pain after rowing? I figure it's technique, but what exactly? Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,

Re: Fat Noob needs starting advice

Yes, a late start due to being away 5 days for a wedding. And I needed to put in long hours before and after that at work to be able to get the time off. So now I am playing catch up! I have been keeping status quo for the last few months, weight that is, dealing with a minor knee and then bicep pro...

Re: New to the forum

Slow and steady, don't overdo it as you can end up with injuries easily. I've seen posts from others much heavier than you or so it shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Fat Noob needs starting advice

8,000 meters and I will be finished the Dog Days Of Summer challenge! Feeling good after coming back from a few small injuries. The Fall Challenge is coming up next, if you're looking to join a team and/or affiliation there is none better than "Japan & Friends Indoor Rowers".

Cheers,

Re: 400+Pound newbie just did first row

When I started my feet were basically on their side in the pedals with knees going out sideways when bending. 60lbs later and I am pretty much able to keep my legs straight and row. So as the weight comes off just to need to work on getting your form right. There was a guy who posted on a different ...

Re: 400+Pound newbie just did first row

Also started at 400lb, from end of january down almost 60lbs. Same comment as the others, persistence, good form, and no matter what don't overdo it. I did I guess, even though I had 4 months under my belt I have a sore knee that I am dealing with now. The iPhone ErgData is great, much easier than h...

Re: Watts versus Calories burned??? Does correlate.

Wow, you guys are incredible, I read your posts and feel like I just flunked junior high science! Just one comment from my own limited rowing, the number being accurate is not such a big deal in my case, previous numbers (calories or whatever) are just targets to reach or to compare to.

Re: Fat Noob needs starting advice

csmith0406, I see you joined the Japan & Friends group, welcome! The more the merrier!!! No number too small if its a positive number. Slowly but surely is best, I forgot to take my own advice and am now paying for a personal best 2,000 meters with a pulled bicep! Hopefully a week off will be enough...

Re: Fat Noob needs starting advice

I'll have to look at this and see what my drag factor is now, I was using damper setting 5 but after almost 3 weeks off sick I dropped down to 4 and am now building back up again. On a happy ending, I did my first sub 8-minute 2,000 meters last night, and it was after a 10k. Feeling good!
