Re: Maffetone Heart Rate Training
Haven’t seen Hadd mentioned. Has Hadd anything to add? I like his method of using heart rate drift to find the correct intensity for those runs, which are a bit faster than the easy runs. In theory, at least. In practice, it has become a standing joke that you will never be allowed to go beyond tha...

Re: Maffetone Heart Rate Training
i am usually fatigued when rowing and I do think that i would have a performance benefit if I had a week off. I can't remember if it has already been mentioned in this thread, but there are other low intensity training regimens where you cut volume to 50% for one week every four weeks to avoid work...

Re: Maffetone Heart Rate Training
As I wrote, these principles have been known in running for almost 100 years.
Do you really think that Lydiard got those principles out to the general public?
How many in this thread except you and me have ever heard about Lydiard's training principles?

Re: Maffetone Heart Rate Training
I read Maffetone's first book in '94, and I've always thought that he just had kind of a gimmicky way of doing what was...well...just training. Completely right. These principles have been known in running for around 100 years. I think Ernst Van Aaken was the first to formulate them. However, even ...

Re: 20R30 DF Question
My question is should the 30R20 pulls be hard thus a high damper setting in attempt to increase strength? Pulls are obviously harder and slower than at a lower DF setting whereby strokes are quicker, more efficient, and at least feel easier. I am not sure I agree to pulls being harder at higher dra...

Re: Maffetone Heart Rate Training
It seems that you share that misunderstanding with most people who have opinions on Maffetone.
Saying that Maffetone is only low intensity is like saying that Wolverine is only L4.

Re: Resistance
Do you have access to a bike, which can show you how many Watt you produce and which cadence you are at?
That is really the best comparison. If you can say: "I need a bike with enough resistance to produce X watt at Y rpm", then people here can chime in and tell you if the BikeErg can fulfill that.

Re: Maffetone Heart Rate Training
For those that have done the Maffetone style training, how do you structure effort throughout the piece? For example, my Maffetone max HR is 131, so if I am doing an easy 8K, I try to get my HR to at least 121 by the first split and then hold pace or slow down as needed to keep HR at or below 131. ...

Re: Help needed improving power generated each stroke
here's a short clip of me rowing, https://www.dropbox.com/s/y117i237l4d310o/VID_20200701_191447_Trim.mp4?dl=0. The problem is obvious: When you reduce your stroke rate, you also slow down on the drive. That is an error. If you want to keep your pace when you reduce your stroke rate, you will actual...

Re: Help needed improving power generated each stroke
I row 30 mins at 30 spm at 190 drag factor and consistently get between 6800 and 6900 metres. At lower drag I have to up my spm to 33-35 to feel like I'm moving, but will only row about 6600. I've experimented with the different routines that do intervals at different drag and spm but I just can't ...

I had to read this several times to grasp what you're saying--still not entirely sure I do. You are not alone. Jack has a beautiful way of expressing himself, twisting words in new ways I have never seen before. I admire his creativity, but it usually takes a lot of decoding before I get th...

It's a weak spot for me [...] I wonder if your 10 minutes rowing warm up was sufficient. Don't be afraid to do a long, somewhat hard warm up. You will pro...
