Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Very easy 15r20 aiming for 2:20. Hope I can use this freshness to ride my bike tomorrow.

Light abs. Band assisted one arm lock offs until failure on rings. Biceps really feel worked.

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

15r20 at DF 80. Resulting pace was slow. Hope to gain from this restraint!

Light ab work and some bouldering. Finger strength slowly improving. Must not get injured. I'm too old to get injured!

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

10r20 then five 20 second free rate sprints over the next 5 minutes. Low volume to hopefully build on last few high volume weeks.

Then ab crunches without the ankle weights or weights on the headrest. Ring work and trying barbell curls instead of conc dumbbell. No forced reps aided by the free hand.

10k @ 2:08.8 r20.

Struggling a bit for fitness due to a combination of too much junk food and a lack of meters.
Come on dude! Get your mojo back! Last time I saw your posts you were on an upward trend. Spice up your sessions with some intervals, start logging some TTs.

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Still on a low volume week. 15 minutes done as programmed intervals. 10 minutes at r20, then five of (20 second free rate sprint, 40 second r20) Then abs and bouldering. Oh and anybody heard about this heart test in the UK which apparently shows that people have "older" hearts than their age? I just...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

I've started a low volume week. I have been into the pits of overtraining before and lost months.

So this morning, I did 15 minutes. First ten aiming for r20. Then 10 free rate power strokes on the minutes from 5 down.

Then some ring work and abs.

Re: Why can I do intervals but struggle with TTs?

What is your pacing like? Post some screenshots of your PM from some TTs.

Most WRs are done with -ve splits, and I always find that work better for me. Start off conservatively for the first split. The build a little if you feel you can until the last split when you unleash hell.

Re: Recovery level. Does it exist on the erg?

Mike Caviston claims that his L3 sessions can be used for active recovery. That is 40-70 minutes at low stroke rate at a pace which he has described a little differently in different posts - but the base recommendation for a starting point seems to be 1.156 * your 2k PB pace (or roughly 65% of your...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

@ Nige, nicely done. Sub 37 mins isn't far off, do you think it's within reach? I think it is a lot of 10k pace is aerobic and getting your head in the right place I think it's possible with some work. Of course like all my PBs, I cannot imagine going any faster. I was on the ragged edge of breakin...

Re: Recovery level. Does it exist on the erg?

Yes, you can certainly get pleasant active rest on a bike. I've got some saddle contact point issues right now, so I'm having to wait for that to settle before I put more saddle time in.

I'll push the damper down to 1 tomorrow morning, and see if I can finish with legs better than when I start.

Re: Watts per kilo - levelling the playing field for lighter rowers

I'd really like a fair way to compare myself with all the monsters on here and watts per kilo seems to be the only game in town. Cyclists use it a lot (cue for wise comments from Gamammo), because it is the key to winning on hilly terrain. I posted previously that male Olympic rowers are at about 7...

Recovery level. Does it exist on the erg?

I absolutely hate complete rest days. I'm a bit crazy because I think I'll get fat and unfit if I spend one day without training. So I try recovery level training. But it doesn't seem to exist on the erg. There is no comfortable pace . It's an onerous and wearing activity. If you rate low, the decel...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Back into the groove after another knock back.

8x500m/2:00r with 1:41.8 average. Getting back into the ballpark.

Just a few crunches and warmup work on the climbing wall because I'm still rebuilding, not match fit.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

New 10k PB. 37:13.4 Which with an average pace of 1:51.6 I pace longer pieces on feel but with a definite pattern of starting slow, and ending fast; 1:52.2 -> 1:50.6 I dragged the erg outside onto the drive to get more air and to be a little cooler. I think there's more to come when the weather cool...
