My father had quintuple by-pass surgery, and 4 months later we were biking across the country. While that is biking fast, it is very strenuous, day after day, and he didn't have any trouble.

I was aiming for 17:58, and started at 1:48.5, than 1:47.6 and 1:47.4 for the 2nd and 3rd K. At that point, sub 17:55 looked feasible so I started to put the pedal to the metal: the 4th K was done at 1:46.2, and the last at 1:44.0  Not the ideal pacing but very close to the best I can do at ...

You are allowed to set it at any setting you like, you just may not change it once the race starts.
I think you will find that most of the people who know better set the damper lower, e.g. in 3-4 range.

Many congratulations John! :D :D
Not only is that an impressive distance, but I also think that it is impressive to have kept at it for over 10 years  .
Good luck on continued erging for many more years, and making it 'around the world'.

I usually like to use projected time for a time trial. For all other rows, and once in a while for time trials, I use mean split time.

While I certainly don't have the time or mentality to erg for 3 hours a day, some people, I'm sure, do. What is more difficult, however, is to have a mean of 3 h/day for 2 years. This means if you miss even one day because of sickness, injury, vacation, family resposiblities, etc. you have 3 hours t...

900 is a lot less than 1400, and they hold up extrememly well, so it is quite likely you wouldn't see much difference between the used and the new. I would also suggest making the investment in your own - I don't think you will regret it at all.

First, that is a very good HM time, especially for a first try! Second, 10 weeks isn't that long to have been erging, so expect a HM, and even more so a FM, to be difficult. Did you take any very short, little breaks? Drink a lot? Have some calories? I sometimes shift my weight off of one cheek duri...
