Men Health Rower

Post by Mackem35 » April 9th, 2020, 6:59 am

Hi newbie here

Just bought a Mens Health Rower from argos to help me stay active during lockdown as i cant run at present due to an injury. It certainly looks exactly the same as the concept2 rowers so im just wondering if the 2 are comparable for workout times?

They aren't. Search the forum for "Brand-X" to find old posts about non-Concept2 ergos.

Sorry, but no they aren't. C2 have perfected their technology and any other rowing machine will get you fit if you use it enough but it's not comparable in terms of times / pace etc.
46 HWT; 6' 4"; 1k= 3:09; 2k= 6:36; 5k= 17:27; 6k= 21:09; 10k= 36:21 30mins= 8,428m 60mins= 16,331m HM= 1:18:40; FM= 2:45:49; 50k= 3:21:14; 100k= 7:52:44; 12hrs = 153km

They're 600 quid on eBay

Get a decent C2 for that coin.
42yo male 5'10 78kg (Rowing since june 9th 2016) PB's 5k 19:22 30min 7518m

My goals are simply to keep fit/get fitter and continue to enjoy rowing on the C2 :)

Yeah thats what i paid from argos. Ideally i wanted a cross trainer but delivery times were ridiculous due to the current demand for home fitness equipment due to lockdown and i got my rower within 2 days.

If i dont get back running anytime soon then id definitely look into getting a c2 as im ultra competitive and would get involved in the competitions/rankings

This is a good thing as the OP may be able to get some value back when the crisis has calmed down (end of June or later). The market for new and used C2's has gone batshit crazy so the Brand-X rower is probably the best bet for the duration.

Use heart rate as a proxy for work done regardless of the numbers on the Brand-X monitor.

Prices are mad.. I had a C and a D... Bought D but OH preferred C so kept both... in today's market she decided it could go so posted for sale, sold in 15 mins for probably double what it was worth 3 months ago... It did have PM5 and new shape handle and buyer delighted... IF i had been greedy I could have sold it for considerably more looking at sold prices on eBay. Now though I have to adjust the foot straps and drag factor everytime I get on it as she is considerably smaller than me... When / if this crap is over I may try pick up another D for her...

The second hand market is likely to be awash with rowers that become clothes horses when folks can get back out to their regular gyms. The problem is that until there's either a viable serology (have you had it? are you immune?) test and/or a viable vaccine the end date is indeterminant.

The "Spanish Flu" of 1918 killed 50M world wide and lasted until 1920 (which was probably the time when herd immunity reached a strong majority of the population). Hopefully medicine has advanced a bit since then.

I think we've got a second wave to watch out for.

I'm ignoring the economic damage which seems to drive the politician egos to making rash decisions.
