Can I put a Model C in my Civic?

Post by The Loaf » February 12th, 2007, 5:47 pm

Hi, and thanks in advance. I'm looking at purchasing a used model C, and though I've used one at the gym, I've never put one together or pulled one apart. Do you think I can easily break it down enough to put it in my Civic sedan? It has a fold-down rear seat so there's room beyond the trunk... What do I need, tool-wise to do this? Wrenches?

Also, what do you think about the price: $500 for a machine in decent shape, about 200 Km on it. Any advice appreciated.

I've got a C, and it's really simple to break it down into two pieces... pull a pin and Bob's your uncle. Not sure if those two components, intact, would fit in a Civic, though.

It ought to be in decent shape, with only 200km! Does it have a PM1 or PM2? If PM1, you'll probably want to upgrade, even if connectivity isn't an issue.

Hi, thanks for the advice. Is this a PM2 or 1... or not a PM at all? Sorry to be so uninformed... I'm looking into buying a used erg, and am doing research as I go. Is $500 a decent price for a machine in good shape? I'm not in a hurry, and could always just save for a newer machine, or Model D. Advice?

If all that made sense, you should be able to see a pic of the actual monitor.

The erg easily comes apart into 2 pieces, and should be able to fit in your car.

This is a pm2 monitor. It looks great. http://www.homes2.com/monitor

I bought a model C from Ebay for $500 plus $41 for shipping (a friend picked it up and shipped it to me), used it for 2 years, then sold it for $677 and there was a lot of competition for the sale.

If we can fit one ERG and 3 rowers into a Volkswagen Golf, you should have plenty of room in a Civic!

Thank you everyone. I'm going to see if I can still get that erg.

I have loaded my model C into the back of my VW Passat, seat up. I break it down into the two main peices, slide portion with seat, and fly wheel portion. I then take the bottom foot bar off the flywheel section. That is the bar with the wheels on it which is perpendicular to the long axis of the erg. It will require an allen wrench to remove the four bolts. The flywheel section will then slip, cage down, behind the front seat where the passangers legs go in front of the back seat. Works quite well for me to transport it this way. Since I often work out of town, it is easier for me to transport then to go wo my workout!

Good luck, and congrats on joining us!

Pam
