Excellent - it's now generally available. (I've announced it over on that other forum.)

I notice you've pulled the beta firmware (or it's not available for download right now). When is that likely to become a production version?

Got a few minor bugaboos to fix, then I'm not sure if I need to beta it again or just internally test and release... we'll see.

problem running installation program

Post by mdtaffet » August 5th, 2007, 9:12 pm

Hello,

I have downloaded the new version of the Logcard Utility program, but instead of installing a new version, it just sits there. I can see it running when I look at my Task list, but it doesn't seem to actually be doing anything.

I'm curious as to why it starts three copies of msiexec.exe running.

How long should I wait after I get the "Preparing to install" window or something else to actually happen?

I'll leave it running for a while, but my guess is it's still not actually going to do anything but sit there taking up resources as shown by the Task Manager.

When you launch the installer, Installshield sometimes seems to "go to lunch" for quite a while. I most cases (normal, modern computer) it can take up to 60 seconds. It is quite tempting to hit the icon again and start another copy running -- I've done this on a number of occasions... I've never seen 3 copies run on their own, is it possible you tried to launch it again when nothing appeared to be happening?

In any case, I'd suggest rebooting and try again. If the problem persists, please feel free to contact me directly for support.

I didn't start three copies of msiexec.exe -- the installer did that all on its own.

Eventually it did actually get to the point of being able to install, but since I was away from my computer for at least two hours, I don't know how long it actually took.

It was certainly longer than 15 to 20 minutes, which is how long I waited after trying to install before I left the computer alone for a while.

So after two hours, there was a dialog box that allowed me to actually start the installation, and after actually starting the installation, it took another 5 to 10 minutes after that for the installation to complete.

Thanks for the report, I'll log it to our database of issues and keep an eye out for other reports of the same thing. I think (and hope) that this is the exception rather than normal operation of the installer.

I'm glad your issues are worked out for now...
