Everyday Cleaning
Hi, I use my erg almost everyday. I have a standard model D with a PM3. I usually clean the slide, the handle, and the seat, with a Lysol wipe after I am done to get rid of the sweat but I feel like there is probably something better. Any ideas Thanks.

Re: Everyday Cleaning
Maintaining your Erg is pretty straight forward. For cleaning, the main areas to clean daily or with each use are the rail and the two seat rollers - but the rail bottom rollers usually don't need cleaning, and then wipe the handle and rest of the Erg for any sweat and slobber. The wipes that leave a residue can actually promote an accumulation of smut on the rollers. That in turn makes the seat lumpy when you roll it so a smooth rolling seat takes less energy than a lumpy one, so smooth is good.
I made a video of how to clean the wheels which might be helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrEaZT6v5O4
On-going, keeping the chain LIGHTLY oiled in accordance with C2's recommended method is good, but it is done infrequently and over-oiling the chain can actually help collect dust on it and foul the sprocket and chain which is counterproductive.
Update your monitor firmware using the cable and computer with the C2 Utility to get the best performance from it.
These machines are tough and require very little maintenance to function, but do require maintenance to function well.

Re: Everyday Cleaning
what solution do you use for cleaning the monorail? Do you use the same solution for wiping the seat and handle too?

Re: Everyday Cleaning
I find that if I clean the slide and rollers every day before I row it only needs a wet cloth. I then dry the slide and check for smooth operation. Unfortunatly it only needs a bit of lint or some other crud to cuase the seat to bump and it's very distracting. A bit of oil on the chain every couple of months in the area it contacts the sprocket is also a good idea.

Re: Everyday Cleaning
I keep a bottle of Windex and a soft cloth or paper towel next to me during a row. Occasionally, a small bit of dust or lint will land on the monorail and I will feel a very slight bump beneath the rollers. When that happens, I stop and while seated, spray a little Windex on the monorail and wipe it off. I then move the seat back and forth to be sure that it slides smoothly again. This only takes only a few seconds and does virtually nothing to disrupt the continuity of the workout.
Re: Everyday Cleaning
After 40 million+ metres, the ride on my D is getting a little more bumpy than on the brand-new machine seven years ago. I spray a small volume of WD40 on the rail before rowing and wipe the track and rollers with *** DELETE - SPAM *** paper when I've finished.
This works very well for the moment but the rollers may well be on their last legs.
Regards,
Joe

Re: Everyday Cleaning
I'm also wondering what products people recommend cleaning the rower seat with. A mild detergent or household cleaner?
