Not quite sure what you mean, but I'm going to assume you mean stand the rower up vertically against a wall and then use it as you would a SkiErg by pulling down on the handle? Seen a few people do this as a substitute for a SkiErg if they don't have one. Never tried it myself!

Yes, precisely.

Well in that case there is not even a project necessary, concept 2 have already made a SkiErg.

I agree with the guys above - if I had a row-erg and I really, really wanted a ski-erg I would buy a ski-erg, because the row-erg is still important enough to me that I wouldn't want to have to go through the hassle of converting it back and forth each time I wanted to row.

If the row-erg isn't that important to you, but you still want a ski-erg, then I'd suggest selling the row-erg and use the proceeds to buy a ski-erg.

Unless you can come up with a system that allows you to switch one machine back and forth between between the two uses so easily that it would only take 5 minutes to do the conversion, (and that seems unlikely to me) I say don't do it.

Given that the complement each other so well, I think the logical thing to do if you really want to do both is to have one of each.

I wouldn't even attempt to do whats been mentioned in here, with my erg. It's too expensive to mess about trying to manipulate it into something it's not designed for... i mean really, propping it up against a wall and standing it on it's end, and the end thats not even designed to support the erg, then yank away on the chain  Might be fun for some, right up until the point it falls over and smashes your PM to smithereens.
