So…is it possible to drop the 5k

Hello everyone. I’m a 16 year old 6’3 225 pounder here with an 18:31 5k. I’ve been rowing for a bit less than a year and my goal is to break 17:00 by September 28, 2024. Can this be done? If so, what training would this require to be accomplished? Thank you.

It is possible, but it really won't be in the slightest bit easy.

The Pete Plan, or the Wolverine Plan, are both great options. PP is a simplified version of the WP, so you can decide what is best for you.

I think any-one is going to need a lot more information about you and your training to be able to say whether it is possible for you or not...

however a 17:00 5k = 330W (1:42 pace) average; your current output is 255W.

It's a big jump in power needed.

You have very good body stats, that will support your goal.
In the end it is mainly depending on the training and how hard you are willing to put all in during the year left. 5k sub or equal 17 is hard to get.
