"Quiet Kit" for Model C--Installation Completed

Post by Terry S. » June 28th, 2009, 9:35 pm

Installed the "Quiet Kit" for my Model C about 50K ago. I'm very pleased with the results which are just as most posters have described--much quieter operation but not quite as quiet as the Model D. Like anything new, there were some different sounds and feel. All have dissipated as the parts have started to break in.

The installation was my first venture into the drive mechanisms for the erg. The kit is neither advertised nor listed by Concept2 but is available on request. The contents of my kit included only the graphic instructions for sprocket replacement--leaving it up to me to scour the website for instructions for just about every other procedure for the Model C. Those pdf files are well done and provided sufficient information to keep me out of trouble. I'd suggest Concept2 prepare a simple description and suggested workflow for installing the kit. It would save both the customer and Concept2 from needless phone calls to Tech Support.

One question for anyone who might know. Now that the buzz and clatter from the chain are missing, I notice some chain vibration that felt at first like stiff links in the new chain, but I believe it is coming from the chain rubbing lightly on the plastic shield at the chain's entry point into the chassis. Is there any reason I can't shave the shield to eliminate the contact?
