How can you post?

Post by gvcormac » April 24th, 2022, 12:10 pm

I am a member, which I thought would've allowed me to post. But my posts go into permanent moderation limbo.

Then I posted something (not aggressive) in "Rants and Raves" asking why and it seems to say I'm not authorized.

So how do I get authorized?

I've been a Concept 2 customer (and booster0 for two decades and this forum is the most frustrating thing I've seen from the company.

OK, so this seems to have worked. No idea why my other posts didn't, or how to ensure that future posts do.

This forum is "first post" moderated. It's also nothing to do with Concept2 (other than they host it) - it's an end-user's forum.

If your first post looks like spam, looks like it's bumping an ancient thread, looks like it's nothing to do with a Rowerg, Skierg or Bikeerg then it's not going to pass the moderation. We get up to forty posts a day that are complete junk with that volume of crap the tiny team of folks who voluntarily moderate this forum may miss one or may reject one by accident.

Once your first post is approved you are free to use all the facilities on the forum to the full extent.

It is pretty user hostile. A set of guidelines would be nice.

We're not going to publish the rules as that gives the spammers an unfair advantage.

I personally like not seeing all the cr*p posts w/ links to places that attack your browser, so thank you moderators. Not good, but not surprising that a real new poster got caught up in it -- I'm sure every one of those spam posters is a new account/first time poster. Glad it doesn't happen often.

As for what else gets blocked.... well there's always including the word that must not be said ... *** DELETE - SPAM *** (kitchen). Gets blocked every time.

You can see the number of new accounts with memberlist.php?mode=&sk=c&sd=d#memberlist
Of 100 on the first two pages, seven (7%) of those are genuine users who've been allowed to post, 93% are spammers.

How do you know that 93% are spammers?

I think that I am about 400% more persistent than your average non-spammer. So maybe only 62% are spammers and you're excluding 80% of legitimate users?

I just made these numbers up, but how do you know yours?

That's because every new user IS a spammer until they post a sane, meaningful & coherent reply on an existing thread (that isn't several years old) or a new thread that's asking about Concept2 equipment or training using Concept2 equipment.

Any user with a URL in their signature or a URL in their forum profile IS a spammer.

We've got to work that way or insanity would ensue.
