Concept2 Utility v 6.53 crash/lockup

Post by Leagle » August 6th, 2013, 10:57 pm

Just purchased a new logcard and Athena reader from Concept 2. Installed the utility properly. Did a workout this evening, so there's data on the card. Followed the instructions for connecting the card reader, fired up the utility, inserted the log card with one workout on it.

After a short while (around 15 seconds) of the mouse icon turning into the "blue circle," got a total computer lockup; even the mouse icon was frozen. Had to do a hard reboot.

Error repeats every time I reinsert the card. Lockup requiring hard reboot. The second or third time my OS had to do a full disk check before booting up (which is quite scary).

I'm on a Windows 7 machine. Too scared to use the utility now.

That type of failure is almost always going to be due to the Windows device driver.

Make sure you have the current 32-bit or 64-bit driver for your system. http://www.athena-scs.com/support/softw ... -downloads

You can easily discover whether your machine is 32-bit or 64-bit. Click the "Start" button, enter "Computer" in the search box, right-click "Computer", and then click "Properties".

Interesting - I downloaded the driver (I'm using Win 7 64-bit), installed it, rebooted, reconnected everything - and the exact same issue occurred. Total lockup.

Then, on a hunch, I connected the card reader to a different USB port on my PC (I had had it plugged into one of the front-facing USB ports, but moved it to a USB port on the back of my PC case). Problem eliminated; works fine.

Not sure why this worked, but that's what did it.
