I witnessed his performance at the Iron Oarsman and it was incredible. I am absolutely certain that he will break eight minutes sometime soon.

Robert was extremely steady in his piece and rowed an 8:06.9 for 2K.

He is in his early eighties and is an inspiration.

Watch out he is a diamond in the rough. Maybe I will go to Long Pine to coach him.

All the best everyone,
XENO

Picture will follow soon.
Only 6 in the 2k for age 79 and up so far this year.

Age is a tough competitor.

As I commented in an earlier message, when Dean Smith reaches 80, he will most likely reduce all the 80+ records to historical footnotes - and that goes for both lwt and hwt. It would be nice to be the first 80+ to break 8 minutes and Xeno gave me plenty of encouragement for it. Whether I can do it or not remains to be seen. However, make it or not, I expect Dean to come through and beat whatever time I make. There is one item I have wondered about. Is his birthday before the end of this season (i.e. April 30, 2006) or after? If it is after, I can at least get some seasonal records. If he turns 80 before then, I can kiss any records goodbye.

regards,

Bob S.
