Dang, I suspect this has been addressed before, but I can't find it in the archives, so I'll ask anew -

does anyone have suggestions for combatting a dreadful rubbing (like rugburn) rawness that I get on my butt? It's kind of like rowing but blisters one gets on the water. Someone thought that vaseline might help, but she's a cyclist, so perhaps she's off-base.

Reduce the amount of movement between your backside and the seat - ie seat pad, bubblewrap, or folded towel.

2. Reduce the friction between your skin and your clothing - ie Grab a pair of lycra compression shorts, these fit like a second skin and any abrasion happens on the shorts surface, not your backside. Don't wear these to the shops unless you like getting whistled at!

You might need to give your skin a chance at healing before anything will work.

I can't imagine vaseline helping, I think it would just get messy. Cyclists do use lubricants around the groin area, but that's because their legs are going in different directions and they land up with abrasions because of it. Rowing movement has our legs moving together so it's not the same problem.

Hope that helps!

Michael
