Weight Loss/ Weight Control

Post by [old] brianric » January 5th, 2005, 4:05 am

Being diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the left knee and told I have diabetes or if not a diabetic, will be one at the rate I am heading towards is incentive enough to permanently lose the weight. I do an annual 26.2 mile walk to raise money for a children’s cancer hospital in Boston in memory of my parents, both whom have died of cancer. I was told lose the weight to get the pressure off the knee, or say goodbye to the Walk. The threat of diabetes reinforces my desire to lose weight. Exercise alone will not do it. One also has to watch what they eat. In my case I cut out just about all the sugars, follow a modified South Beach diet, but take in more dairy products then what the diet recommends. I love milk. I still have 30 to 45 more pounds to go, lost 30 so far. One thing I am amazed at that I am at 196.6 right now with a 36 inch waist. Years ago I had to get to 180 pounds to get to that same waist size. I attribute this solely to the C2. I will watch my weight, and if I get down to a size 31 inch waist and have not achieved my weight goal, I will stop losing weight. Friends of mine want to know my secret, looking for a quick fix. There isn’t any. It is a lot of hard work, but the rewards are great. This is going to be a permanent lifestyle change, as I’m getting to old to be messing around with my health. Sure did get a blast yesterday going in places at work where people have not seen me in months. I will post pictures of myself every couple of months until my goal is achieved.

Since you seem to live in Boston, I have another health suggestion: Make sure you are not a Sox fan.....being a Yankee fan will lead to a much longer and happier life.....

2005....The Empire Strikes Back...........
