Why not try another row, slow pace and light loading and see what happens. If it hurts, stop.

Sounds like it might be a bit of inflamation of the tendons around the elbow - quite a lot of them. If the pain remains, maybe an anti-inflamatory would help?

Look up 'tennis elbow' on the web or in a medical/health book and see if any of that sounds familiar.

I had some tennis elbow at Christmas, but carried on with the help of anti-inflamatories.

Usual disclaimers apply!

Thanks, I appreciate the input. As of this evening, with no rowing, the pain seems to have gone away. At least I haven't felt anything annoying for an hour or two. I'll give it a rest overnight and do a light workout as you suggest in the morning.

again.. thanks!!

Kris

QUOTE(copywriter @ Jun 8 2005, 06:16 PM)

Why not try another row, slow pace and light loading and see what happens. Kris,

Be sure you're using a low damper setting. As Diesel pointed out in another thread, higher damper settings are hard on the joints. Hard on the muscles, too. When I use a Model C, I set the damper at around 3. On my Model B, I keep it as low as I can get it, but it's still has more resistance than the C on 3.

I had the same thing happen when I started a couple of weeks ago. I was rowing too much, too hard, every day. After only a week the pain set in. I now row every other day to give my muscles a rest and I row easy with a rhythm, I concentrate more on my technique, not time. When I could row up to a hour I now do sets and try to improve my pace time. Some days I feel good and the time drops, today it was a struggle to row. Ice it and rest and the lower damper setting really made a difference to me! If the pain is constant I would give it rest if you continue you could aggravate it and the tendons will swell more. See how it feels at the lower setting.
Good Luck,
Mary
T.P. ILlinois

Thanks. After two days off of rowing I did a 5000 today with no problems, even improved and getting a new PB. I'll start rotating my days around and see if that keeps the elbow pain away.

Kris

[/quote]
Sorry to hear about your elbow.
