Help Choosing a Shell

No, ergs don't yet float, but some of us do, and here's where you get to discuss that other form of rowing.

Help Choosing a Shell

Post by thejosephwilbur » June 14th, 2017, 12:02 pm

Hi,

I'm trying to decide what type of shell to rent. What would be the biggest differences between a Peinert 26, and a Levator? Any advantages, and disadvantages?

Thanks,

I personally don't like Peinerts. I always found them to be very cheap and low quality. Never rowed in a Levator before but they look like very nice shells. That's about all I can offer as I don't really know your plans.

Hi,

I've rowed Peinerts, but not Levators. I agree that the Peinert is inexpensive, but I wouldn't call it cheap. It's a good stiff boat. I find it a little harder to set than my fluid. Some folks don't like the foot straps instead of shoes, but I thought the straps worked pretty well.

They are also extensively used at Craftsbury, which I think is a pretty good indication of their durability.

If you can't decide, especially if you're just renting one, go with which ever one you think is the nicer boat.
