VTC 2011: Looking for a unique team? We're just that.

Post by Kona2 » December 22nd, 2010, 4:45 pm

We shop for teammates, too. It's always good to see something that is a little unique and not necessarily on the sale rack. Our team, Luna-Tics, was established in 2003, by a NASA employee who thought rowing enough meters to get to the moon would be great fun. While this may have initially seemed like one of those goals that might not get accomplished, we suddenly find that we're close enough to start thinking about a lunar landing sometime in March, 2011. Who knew that rowing in a virtual team challenge in 2007 would turn into something so rewarding and fun!

Many of us started rowing as a cross-training activity, and found that rowing was just a bit addictive. Our team is a virtual community that inspires us to do more than we would otherwise attempt. If what you are looking for is a community that you can contribute to - without signing up for a specific meter amount - we're that kind of team. Our team room forum pages are open to all, so take a look. We cheer everyone on, like to win but don't kill ourselves for it, are international, actually like having children be part of the team - and celebrating their achievements. We especially like teammates who tell us what their goals are so we can help them achieve those goals. Funny how at the end of the season we realize that we had goals we didn't even articulate.

We've had several people "shop" us - and, really, this is not a one way effort. We're looking for team members who like to have a voice, who equally celebrate their teammates’ achievements, and who contribute to the team environment.

So...we want more than meters. We can generate those. We'd rather have the whole teammate. If that's you, great! We're open to new team members all year. And if you want to just try us out as part of the Virtual Team Challenge - hey, it's a great starting point!

Hope to see you on the roster soon!

51 team members on the roster thus far! Room for many, many more! We're ready to rock and row - and would love to have you join in the Luna-Tics team fun. The moon is getting closer....only 28 million more meters! Help us get there!

Along our Luna shoreline, our virtual canoes are hidden. AJ has already rigged the canoes, so they are ready to go! Our mission (in addition to the moonshot) is to get some rowers into those canoes....and become the LUNA Fleet....populated by we characters of the Luna crew (rumor has it that there are some amazing likenesses to certain team profile photos). These canoes have a rich history, as does this team, and we'll treat them with the respect they deserve while we push ourselves forward. So how do you get to be one of the Luna Crew, a rower in one of our fleet canoes? You have to be on our virtual team. Once you've reached 100,000 m ....your "character" will show up in a canoe....you actually get to paddle (this will help) once you've reached 200K. Those under 16 and/or on the adaptive honor boards have a goal of 25K for the character in the boat, and 75K for the ability to paddle. We hope to fill many of these canoes - and we'll be publishing the canoe crew graphics each Tuesday during the January Virtual Team Challenge. We do hope that YOUR character is in one of our canoes...for we will go forward with New Year's blessings and wishes towards the unknown frontier. You'll want to be part of that adventure!

63 virtual teammates thus far....we'd love to have you join us!

It's Tuesday and the Luna Armada is starting to gather....89 teammates have joined us, thus far, and YOU could make it more...

We would love to have more rowers in our boats....all it takes to get there is join our virtual team, The Luna-Tics, row 100K and your character is in one of the canoes! At 200K, you're zooming through the waves with a paddle to power that canoe...and we'll be rockin and rowin' through the Virtual Challenge!

Re: EIGHT MORE DAYS to join up

In eight days, the virtual team rosters will be "set." We're looking for more rowers to join our Lunar Armoonda (formerly known as the Armada)! Check out our team forum pages in the Teams section. Hope to see you on the roster soon!

This year's Virtual Team Challenge is like something out of the Wild, Wild West! We currently have 93 virtual teammates in the Luna Armoonda (formerly known as the Armada....but given our target destination, Armoonda seems a much more appropriate tag....!), and we'd love to add to that number! What if the Armoonda was a fleet of ONE HUNDRED canoes?!

Join us for some Looney fun, great canoes and Luna natives as we cheer each other (and, yes, other teams, too!) onward! And you thought virtual rowing was a solitary activity!

The journey to the moon (and sometimes your first million meters) is a long one....it's good to have rowing buddies. Three or four (depending on your location in the rowing universe) days left to sign on...sign on....sign on!
