Good to hear that you're getting better - 40 minutes is a goodly amount of time.

Lisa: please put me in the FTC for 400K; I'm pretty sure I'll be able to make it.

Sorry to have been absent for so long; I wrecked my left shoulder playing computer games (triceps and rear deltoids--meaning that I can still row, fortunately) so I've been avoiding my computer except to log entries and check e-mail. (And, for some reason my e-mail server has been blocking a lot of my e-mails, as I've just discovered--so if anyone has sent me a note and I haven't answered, you know why now!).

I have caught up on the forum entries for the last couple of months, so congratulations to all those recovering and soaring ahead with their goals, and commiserations for those of us still limping on the way up. As for the one who tripped over the erg, take heart, you are not alone: I nearly fell off mine ("Loosen straps completely before disembarking"). And, as an apartment dweller and rower, I'm happy to say I haven't had any of the problems others have commented on; at least, no one complained and my apartment manager lived next door. Now, I'm in the first floor apartment in a house, and the owners have said they can't even hear it. The erg comes apart easily so it doesn't take up much room, either.

Also, thank you for the congratulations when I reached 1M metres. I didn't actually notice the season metres because I was focusing on my progress towards 11M lifetime metres. It's nice to be able to row at least 20K/session again; with any luck, I'll be able to fit my kilt as a Christmas present to myself--an illusive challenge for the past several years.

All the best to everyone, and good luck with your goals!

Heather

Sorry to hear you've been out with (another?) soccer owie... I seem to remember this has happened before. We never learn, do we?   You mean ITB? Illiotibial band? I mash mine up regularly with a firm foam roller. Hurts like hell but it helps a lot.

Goals can't do 500-meter increments so I rounded up to 63k -- challenge you a bit more. ;)

Ya that ITB thing. Mostly it is the foot but the ITB plus an old knee inury are causing my knee to lock up some times at night. News to me but it makes sense. I remember when I did my first half-marathon row i got the weirdest cramp on the outside of my hip/thigh. Think it's been kind of laying in wait

Yes, I confess, I'm an addict. But not action games: I prefer the adventure, problem solving genre like the Myst series. Then there are the Luminosity games, which are diverse and entertaining, and stimulating as they are meant to be but if you're at all competitive (hah! I can do better than that!) they are rather addictive. And of course, Mahjonng which I actually haven't played for a long time it was so time-consuming. Pure escapism, with all that that implies. So, it's back to rowing til my butt hurts, playing the piano, toying with the idea of revisiting my French lessons and giving sideway glances to my easel and prepped canvases... Maybe the art will come again, but later.

I suppose if my aim was better I might have got past level 1 of some of my son's action games... Can't be talented in every area I guess
