I've been catching up on some 2001: A Space Odyssey trivia. The 50th anniversary was in April, but I didn't get to catch up with the articles until now. Some behind the scenes trivia I might have preferred not knowing. Can't argue with the results, but I started feeling pretty bad about how Arthur C. Clarke was treated. Anyway, Europa popped up in the news again with new findings from old data suggesting that there may be plumes of perhaps some kind of water vapor that may contain building blocks of life. May be... perhaps... may contain... Enough to consider a course correction? It's just a different Luna, right? Fortunately, our trusty, wiser, and more experienced astrogator will be taking the wheel of this bus shortly. So don't glue yourself to the seat just yet.
(Sometimes you got to take what these 1:4:9 dimensioned black monoliths have to say with a grain of salt.)

Does anybody have a clue to why my PM5 monitor will not connect to my iMac?
I have plugged and unplugged at least 20 times. It was working 2 days ago.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks Norma. These little moments make me appreciate even more what K2 does every day. I was definitely ready for that 2001 monkey to pass the baton.
By the way, I don't really think we'll be heading to Jupiter. But, just in case, I'm starting to stock supplies.

Maybe try using the ErgData app instead - and connect your PM5 to the app, and upload data that way. The other option, among many perhaps, is to give Concept2 a call. They are very helpful in solving these kinds of issues. Or you can get on chat with them on their website.

Amazing things happen while you're not home to watch them unfold ! Presenting the 2018 giant allums - love these flowers....and so do the bees! Things are greening up all over!

Admit it - you love the long days and evenings that lead into summer. You know, that time before the mosquitoes come out to get us.

ImageIn every group golfing outing, there are always a couple of pranksters. My recent desert golfing was no exception - and I am happy to say that I was not the victim of the prank. Every golf course had signs posted on the course and in the clubhouse about rattlesnakes....beware...beware....beware. On the third day of golf, I noted that the course marshal (who was in on the prank) was following us for several holes. Our pranksters had placed a rubber snake in the cart down by the pedals. It took a couple holes for the driver of that cart to notice the snake....there was a piercing scream and the driver literally climbed over the passenger to get out of the cart. Every gal for herself. It was pretty funny, but perhaps you had to be there. Or be there from a distance. Kind of like Kilauea.

"Kind of like Kilauea," indeed. I'm still angsting over our upcoming trip to the Big Island. I've had many Henny Penny moments in the past couple of weeks ... to go or not to go ... the sky is literally falling. Hopefully, the trade winds will blow briskly to the south, and all the vog and ash will be gone by the time we get there.

Image Will Justify win the second leg of the Triple Crown?

I'm betting that Richard T would be all for this horse - with all its similarities to American Pharoah. Looks like another sloppy racetrack for the Preakness, and Justify has already shown power in the mud (like the sign says, the view only changes if you're the lead horse). 8 horses will be running in today's race at 6:20 PM, and many of them didn't compete in the Kentucky Derby...and some disagreement always exists about how fair it is or isn't that to win the Triple Crown, a horse has to face a lot of new competition from horses that don't compete in all three races over the 29 day race phase of the Triple Crown. The Preakness is the shortest race of the three: 1 3/16 miles vs 1 1/4 miles for the Derby vs 1 1/2 miles for the Belmont Stakes.

Image And watch for the painting of the weather vane when the winner crosses the finish line....it's tradition to paint the weather vane at Pimlico in the colors of the winning silks!

The Derby has its bourbony Mint Julep and roses, and the Preakness has its Black Eyed Susan Cocktail and black-eyed susans: according to the Preakness Stakes website, the black-eyed Susan cocktail is made with one part bourbon, one part vodka, one part peach schnapps, two parts orange juice and two parts sour mix. All of the ingredients are shaken together with ice and then served over crushed ice with an orange wedge and cherries for garnish. Get yer erging done first...

Thanks K2 problem solved. Reverted to old PM4 until new one arrives on Tues. Concept2 graciously sending it free under warranty. Is that a great company or what. I was 2 weeks out of warranty.

And the Pimlico weathervane now sports the silk colors worn by Mike Smith, Justify's jockey....

Another day of drizzly rain (unusual!) here, and thankful that it is not the frog-strangling gully washing downpour that it could be. Still, it was a tipping point. The growing pile of soggy dog towels for all those muddy paws sent me searching for alternatives. Trying to catch one excited puppy before all the paw prints hit the floor is one thing, and trying to catch two of them is practically impossible. I know. You can smell the wet dogs for miles. They, on the other hand, are having a blast!

Meanwhile, Danno was in search of an answer to a malfunctioning PM5...

That's great news, Danno! Concept2 continues to amaze with its customer focus and service! I seem to recall that you went for a plant tour, and picked up a new Concept2 machine while you were there. There's often not a lot to see at some of these manufacturing sites, but it's always good to meet the people who make the products! I've had to call them for assistance once in awhile (card readers, and had some bolts that sheared off on foot panels - this was due to an unusual machining issue), and they are quick to help out. Never too early to start thinking about putting a shiny new Concept2 under your tree....consistently get top marks for best rowing machines on the market, and they remain at a price point that makes them affordable for many.

By the way....Sunday's Google Doodle....

Post by Kona2 » May 20th, 2018, 10:52 am

This astrogator is particularly fond of maps. Today's Google Doodle is a nod to Abraham Ortelius, a cartographer who published the world's first atlas in 1570. Like many early maps, there were depictions of sea monsters. The five continents were represented by allegorical women....interesting that the Americas were represented by an armed Amazonian warrior holding a severed head. This symbolized cannibalism....yikes.

Back in the 1990s, I purchased a map/chart from Concept2 that represented Terra Firma and several seas of discontent and such. There was even a section called "here be monsters", I believe. Can't remember what the map/chart was called. The object was to virtually move your rower by getting through the various dotted line distances through each of the continents. Not making this one up. Anyone else remember this?

And, there's also Concept2's ergBike for your consideration ... which I enjoy as much, if not more, than the rowing machine!
