No the challenge officially starts tomorrow, Feb. 9. I'm starting today because I need to row 16k anyway. :)

Image St. Valentine's Day Challenge. Here's an incentive for some of you: Rather than row 14,000 meters over the challenge period, I will row `14,000 meters PER DAY!!

I will accept your challenge! I don't know if I can catch you in meters but this old bat is almost to the magic million. I never thought I would be able to but here I am. You are doing fabulous by the way. I wish you would wait up. :roll: oh well I guess I will just have to lag in your shadow ay?

Tom - I met your challenge over the weekend and rowed 14K+ each day; but it might be a different story tomorrow ... that extra time is difficult to find after work. :cry:

14K challenge

Post by Kona2 » February 10th, 2008, 9:42 pm

I did manage the 14K on Saturday - longest distance I've rowed thus far. Wasn't too bad (can't believe I'm saying this). I'll see if I can get a few more 14K plus days in before the 14th to contribute to the challenge meters.

Don't know if it matters, but the Oarsmen did pull into the 13th slot and have bumped the team back down to 14th. And there are only 33 of them. Perhaps Tom's challenge will move us forward!

Go team - think of all those valentine hearts in space!

I too, pulled 14K both Friday and Saturday, but was only able to get in a 10K today. No shame there... my body is sore!

Congrats to everyone who is achieving milestones and goals along the way! Stay warm...

I am drowning in bookwork and tax prep stuff, and have to keep pushing to get it all done before my appointment next week. I promise to get in at least one 14k row to make the challenge this week, but can't make any promises for more than that right now :cry:

I really let things slide in January to make the time to row harder during the JVC. I will be back on board more regularly in time for the challenge coming up in March.

We need to get some new rollers for the seat ASAP. It seems that the ball bearings are going out (this is the second time I will be replacing the upper rollers in 6 million meters of rowing - that's pretty good wear, I think. The upper rollers are the only thing on the rower I have had to replace so far.)

My seat is starting to squeek.. :shock:
I still have my original and have logged well over 11 million meters.

Great job on the 14k, Kona2.

I just checked our year-round team roster, and discovered we lost one of our higher meters members. She has been an active participant, so this might be an accident. I have emailed her to let her know. Hopefully we will get her back in the boat before too long, and be back in 13th position again. I think that is why we dropped back one place.

Tom's challenge

Post by kalmjorg » February 11th, 2008, 10:17 pm

I have managed to go at least 14k since I accepted your challenge and yesterday I rowed 16k which is my best in one sitting. I also managed to do it in 90 min so I think I am getting stronger FINALLY!

On another note ... Kristine ... could you possibly post the info you had on the other board about ways to get more efficient rowing etc. I lost the info and need a refresher. I sure did get a lot better at rowing after that info.

Is this the info you are looking for?

http://www.concept2.co.uk/training/interactive.php

It is an interactive training calculator that will give you workout programs based on data you enter such as your athletic level (scroll down on that page to see the classification definitions);
the number of rowing sessions per week you want to row;
number of weeks to your "race" or goal;
your current best 2000 meter time;
your age;
your resting heart rate;
your maximum heart rate (it can estimate it for you).

You can select a program for increasing your 2000 meter times or for weight loss.

You plug in all the data asked for, and the calculator generates your workout program for the days and weeks you requested, along with instructions for how to row the different workouts.

The info I learned from this link really revolutionized my rowing, and made my time on the rower much more efficient and fun. I highly recommend it, even for beginners.

Luna-Tics T-Shirt or Mug from Cafe Press

Post by Kona2 » February 12th, 2008, 11:46 am

Hi everybody,

For the virtual challenge t-shirt, I took the option of customizing that Cafe Press offered. I put the logo for the Luna-Tics on the front, and the virtual challenge logo on the back (small logo - about 2 inches wide). Since image quality is often an unknown, I waited until I received the shirt before I posted info on this site for any of you who might want to get one of these from Cafe Press. Image quality was good - so I thought it was worth sharing the idea. Here's what the shirt looks like: It's product number 210108135 if you are interested. Kristine also suggested we put the logo on a mug, so it is product # 227176282. If you go to Cafe Press website and put in those product numbers, you'll get a better idea of what they look like - and can order if you choose to do so. JS
