What’s the thought on Facebook? Should we go with Shirley’s suggestion of 11x1’ on 1?For the November challenge - I like the idea of the 11s I guess or the end of WW1 1918 but that is a little like October
(or maybe just a good solid 6k?)

Re: Forum Flyers
Despite my initial suggestions, I'm liking the idea of a simple straight distance. Would vote for a 6000m (last done on CTC in Sep 2017) or a 5000m (last done Jan 2016).

Hi jp,
Sorry for the late reply. Jack has already indicated how to join the affiliation in the meantime. It can be found there too :
https://log.concept2.com/affiliation/30/season/2019
The affiliation collates everybody's contributions throughout the season (including, but not only, the meters posted for the challenges, which are registered also separately with a team purposely created for that particular challenge).
Once you join the affiliation, your season's total meters will then be ranked in that page.

As a parenthesis to the headscratching over next month’s CTC, I found the Free Spirits Altzheimer’s Awareness combination of long intervals and short quite interesting. Nothing earthshaking but transparently revelatory of relative strengths, weaknesses and compensating executions of the handful of participants for whom I could find split information as well as overall time.

I prefer Papy’s “Three Peace” (piece) version to the flat 6k. With 2’ of intercolated paddling or quiet reflection, inside 34”’total time for most.

Re: Forum Flyers
I am easy on the choice but would probably go for the 11x 111m/1'R on the grounds that the one suggested above is pretty similar to the October challenge and the plain 6k and 5k has been done in the past year or so. I visited FB to see if there are any other suggestions and the site is(unsurprisingly) pretty quiet. It could produce some pretty speccy pieces I suspect.
Happy to be outvoted.
Terry and I have logged our 1609m tonite so we have 8 up now and are placed third for the moment.
Mine was @1:44.5 which adjusted to 4:58 from 5:36 and terry's was @1:53 which went to 4:52 from 6:06

Cool, jp !
Still building up volume here at DF 100-110 spm 20, creeping up slowly...did a 60 min at 12,763m on Saturday.... And a first HM in 1h43 this afternoon, although there were some butt aches in the last 40 min and a few troughs in pace to take it over the line

Lindsay writes apropos Flyers’ Nov. challenge submission:
Doable for everyone and the addition of 30” rest to Chris’ version should leave us fresh enuf to avoid fade at 5 while assuring hitting a solid wall at rep 8 or 9. Cool beans.I am easy on the choice but would probably go for the 11x 111m/1'R . . . .

Re: Forum Flyers
We should probably get down to some voting with about a week to go to lock a choice down and pass on to Dougie. Here's the list that has been generated so far:
A ) Eleventh hour. 111m x 11, 30 sec rest. Total metres. 1st standing start rest rolling
B ) 11 x 1 min, 1 min rest
C ) 1111m
D ) 11 min
E ) 1,918m for end of WW1 + 1,945m for end of WW2 + 2,011m for end of Iraq war with 2 min rests (to reflect the 2min silence done on the 11th hour)
F ) 11x 111m/1'R
G ) 6000m
H ) 5000m
I suggest we tally whatever votes have been cast by the time I eat breakfast on the 30th of October, unless it's obvious before then that we have a winner. I'm going to go with Lindsay's expertise in knowing what's right for a BRIC preparation session, and throw in a vote for F.

Jean Gilmore: 1 vote Option F

How important is alactic (ATP/CP energy production) system training to BRIC (and presumably prep for any 2k comp)? Can someone please link to Lindsay’s opinion as I have either not seen it or have seen it but didn’t pay sufficient attention. (The CW suggests that an energy source exhausted in 30” can fuel less than 9% of a world class 6’/2k effort and only 7% of a quotidien 7’.

Its very poorly trainable, better anaerobic fitness is mostly better aerobic fitness and the ability to use the lactate the fast fibers produce.jackarabit wrote: ↑October 22nd, 2018, 4:16 pm

Re: Forum Flyers
What ain’t crucial to BRIC is still a good party trick! The alactic system should be capable of large contributions to short interval work which stipulates rest periods of a minimum of 45”, the time said to be necessary for full replenishment of alactic energy resources, (ex: 111m x 11/1’R).

My throwaway comment about Lindsay's suggested CTC session likely being good prep for BRIC was just my assumption based on him competing there before, going to this year's one, and he's a serious competitor well below sub-7, so he should know what he's doing in the month before the event! I didn't base it on any explicit comments he made (although hopefully this might spark him coming along and filling in the blanks for us

We recover roughly 95% in 1 minute. This system is very much used in game sports, soccer, tennis, basketball etc. Lots of short high intensity efforts, but mostly easy jogs or standing still. The moment you go lactic anaerobe a good bit, you are over and out. Run a hard 400 as example and see how you worth right afterjackarabit wrote: ↑October 23rd, 2018, 2:08 pmWhat ain’t crucial to BRIC is still a good party trick!
