Uh huh, plus trying to find a decent number of meters that don't seem to bother my gimpy, ailing knees! Maybe the lower gravity on the moon will help. Onwards! Meanwhile, I'm living vicariously through all the early-and-impressive reindeer releases. Now dash away, dash away all!
Good luck with your knees! At least half of my friends who are close to my age have either knee or hip problems. So far I've been lucky. Still feel like a young Reindeer Buck. Could you doubt it, with a macho name like Cupid :?
Cupid draw back your bow,
And let your arrow go.
Straight to my lover's heart for me.
Nobody but me. :D

Minnie, ,hope your knees feel better, Ron is so correct. Knees, hips, etc seem to bother most of us of a certain age.

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 11.30.15

Post by Kona2 » December 1st, 2015, 12:47 pm

Whooooosh! That's the sound of you and your erg flying through yet another month!

Welcome back for the 2016 season to Brian C!

Image Day 6 of 29....no pressure, tick tock...!

The Holiday Challenge Erg Community Meter Piggy Bank contains $288.35 as of this writing. I think that the Lunie Holiday Challenge Meter Piggy Bank contains $21.28 as this AM. Good erging by all ! With what seems like a shorter time to produce Holiday meters (it isn't shorter...we're just busier!), it's great to see our team members helping fill the overall Concept2 charity piggy bank.

7 reindeer running about in the Luniverse...and soon there will be MORE. Bobbie is really close to throwing the reindeer harness out there with just 2,564 m to go, and Lily needs just 33,475 m to get her reindeer, Doug G needs 25,533 more meters, Norma needs 26,485 m, Tammy needs 29,124 m, Dave H needs 32,806 m and Tombeur needs 33,330 m. More reindeer on the way, naturally, but will wait till others get a few meters closer to the reindeer range...of course these are free range reindeer - anyone can earn one....

Trying to avoid aggravating some knee quirkiness here too.
Healing thoughts to you, Minnie. And I think Baz might have been dealing with some knee issues also.

Jim, don't even look. This was enough to give me vertigo.

Thanks for the support! Seems like knees are a real design flaw. Reindeer knee surgery, and suspending one's erg mid-air, are certainly novel ideas to consider (albeit, fleetingly); meanwhile, I'll keep plodding gingerly toward releasing Wobbly Willow.

The jury seems to be split as to whether rowing is good for ailing knees, or not. Obviously, lots of different factors come into play. Maybe I should look at the ski-erg, too.

Problem with knees is that there are so many possible issues. I lift weights, I don’t have knee trouble. Therefore, weak muscles around the knee is the issues for me. Even rowing isn’t enough to fix this. I know it’s time to work on them again when I start having pain when going down stairs. I need to do squats. I do body weight squats. More correctly modified squats. Simply means I don’t go all the way down like a competitive power lifter would. About half to 2/3 down is enough. In other words don’t go down until the thigh is parallel to the floor. Help keep your back in line by holding your arms straight out in front of you. I do this to time. You can go all the way to 2 minutes. Also when going up, take two stairs at a time when possible.
Arthritic folks may want to consider eliminating all animal protein from their diet. Preferably before it gets too bad, and see if that makes a difference in 6 months or so.
Have fun
LT

Image Day 7 of 29...and Lunies have earned $33.87 (or thereabouts!) towards the $30 K ...that's a tenth of a percent! I bet we're good for at least $300 virtually earned dollars as a Luniverse...erg on!

Whoa...a great clatter of hooves...and Bobbie and Doug G have their share of the Lunie herd! Way to go!

Keeping watch here at Reindeer Central for those about to earn their first TWO virtual charity dollars in the Holiday Challenge:

Image 8,714 m to go!
bg 12,583 m to go!
Tammy 21,347 m to go!
Dean 22,346 m to go!

And, of course, there are always those that come in like stealth and drop a bag of meters into the meter piggy bank! We love those, too!

On Dasher, on Dancer, on Prancer, and Thor...on Vixen, on Cupid, on Comet, on Donner and on Blitzen! Whoop, whoop and way to fly!

So sorry to hear about your knee pain, Minnie. I agree with Thor, that muscle strength around the knee joint can be a big factor, and body weight squats seem to be one of the very best ways to build the right strength.

Knee Rant

Post by just27 » December 2nd, 2015, 5:03 pm

Thank you, all, for the very helpful thoughts and suggestions on the subject of sore knees. I know that I need to actually find out if the problem is osteoarthritis, rather than continuing to self-diagnose; but, denial is one of my many overdone strengths. I have been doing a yoga squat (against a wall), and following the more moderate arthritis diet suggestions. Walking has never been my thing, unless I'm at the beach, but I guess I could borrow a dog and do the neighborhood circuit! Richard also suggested lowering the foot rests, which I'll try when I row tonight. I do know that I'll never allow myself to get crazy competitive during the sprints, again!
