Sorry Heather - a bit of a dad joke - refers to army IDs
just need to know name gender and the like to know who we are talking to - welcome indeed - we are always particularly pleased to have ladies in the CTC boats - one of our weaknesses. Where are you based?

Welcome Heather. I am a new starter too and have found this Team to be good in offering both advice and inspiration to get going on the erg.

Since I started about 2 months ago I am following advice and doing 5k pieces at 18 - 20 rate on a drag factor of about 112. The slow rate helps you to concentrate on correct technique and recovery, and improves cardio fitness, I'm told - I am seeing some improvement in that area.
Currently I am getting 5k done in under 22 min which is fine for now but I want it to get better still.

I'll probably start the Beginners Pete Plan https://thepeteplan.wordpress.com/beginner-training/ in Feb to get some structure.

Good luck with whatever you decide to use the rowing for - for me it's just fitness really, I'm not going to be breaking any records at my age, nor entering any races, but I like the 'good workout' feeling the erg gives me even after only a 5k.

We need ladies in the CTC - whatever time or distance you post you'll go in a high boat because there's only 1 lady in each boat :)

Frustration is.....

Missing your previous CTC distance by 1 metre

Best is 1334, did 1333 today - feeble effort when looking at the people above me but I don't think I can get any more - nearly bust a gut on it today :?

1 lousy metre ... gah!

LOL. I guess this wouldn't be the best time to claim how discerning I can be ;)

Had another go at the Dec CTC today - upped the DF to 155 (from typical 125). First 6 intervals all at 1:36.x, final 30" at 1:35.5 for 1,555m in total (1:36.5 average) 13m more than last effort.

Happy to squeeze out a few more meters but reckon this is about the best I can do right now - from the second half of the 60" onwards these really felt like I was just holding on!

Once again I doff my hat to the guys in the first 2 boats this month. I just gave it a second go with less restraint and only got to 1537m, 22 meters
further than my previous attempt. Missed the 2nd boat by 6 meters, which sure feels like a lot right now. I think I should fit in a weekly lifting practice, have been putting that off in favor of steady state, OTW practice and indoor circuit training. Some more muscle power would benefit this sprinting work, not to mention some weight loss (needed for some more flexibility in OTW boating choices).
Hope next month's ctc is something more up my alley.

The January CTC will be The Free Spirits 4 Cubed - 4 x 4 minutes with 4 minutes rest (per interval). First interval from a standing start. No restrictions on stroke rate.

For the avoidance of doubt, no changing the damper setting between intervals!
Not sure how to go at this. Hard I suppose.

That's basically a Wolverine plan L1 training. I can do those at about 2K - 1 or 2, not sure I'd like to attack these intervals much harder.

Wish everybody a pleasent year ending and hollidays the way you like them.

Current ctc is still a bit thin, its only only 10 min work, even the pace of a 10 min row will do to get some boats floating.
Doing hard is very nasty, doing a 90% is just a warm up. So guys and gals get some more seats filled.

Next month is pretty good 2k training. For faster rowers a bit long, for around 8k people roughly a 4x1k session.

Lizh put her hand up tonite for the ctc - 2:04.0 pace so not too bad for her (will struggle with the 4x4' tho)
Next month is just like the TR sessions for IP so might do it a couple of times.

Had one last go on the CTC. Happy with the result. For some reason the board would not let me attach an image from RowPro.

1 0:30 1:36.0
2 0:40 1:35.4
3 0:50 1:35.8
4 1:00 1:36.8
5 0:50 1:37.4
6 0:40 1:36.6
7 0:30 1:36.2
Avg 1:36.3 for 1,557m
