Hello everyone, happy to be rowing again after an elbow injury in the summer. It’s great to be back on this team! I’m trying to ease back in slowly so keeping my goal at around 6000 - 8000 mts per day. Like many of you, I run as well, but our fickle Texas weather has been keeping me inside a lot of late. Keep up the great job everyone! The daily team meters are very encouraging :D

I hope your arm is ok, Gabi.

As for me, I was chugging along nicely, but now I suspect I have the Flu or a really bad cold. It felt like a fever last night and early this morning, but now it seems just cold symptoms. Either way - taking at least one day off. :?

Thank you Jim, it's still not optimal yet, but getting stronger!

I hope you're feeling better too ... the flu's making its rounds in our area as well, glad you've decided to rest.

Welcome to your bi-weekly update from the Oldest Chaplain in the Army. The US government shutdown has resulted in the cancellation of my trip to Coronado, CA. The good news: I can keep contributing meters in the coming week; the bad news: you have to put up with my annoying updates! In the grand scheme of things, we currently stand in 35th place, but 4 or 5 teams climb or descend the ladder with the contribution of a single rower. What is the moral of the story? Your meters count! Keep them coming! For teams our size (21-50 rowers) we are in 3rd place out of 19 teams. Before I give you the laundry list of rowers and their meters, I want to acknowledge the outstanding performance by John S. who has poured in a staggering 306,905 meters! I also want to commend our two youngest rowers, Bel C. (15) with 92,021 meters and Joey W. (12) with 7,356! Great job to both of you!

John S. 306,905
Fred M. 197,620
Josh O. 190,978
Mark S. 145,000
Randy F. 140,000
Me 137,450
Jim C. 110,000
John W. 109,421
Karen O. 108,000
George M. 105,091
Ray W. 101,260
Warren F. 100,254
David R. 94,000
Doug D. 92,667
Bel C. 92,021
David H. 84,400
Gabi H. 78,500
Dan S. 75,200
Bob W. 62,194
Lee W. 54,646
Glenn Y. 52,426
Adam M. 52,000
Fred J. 42,839
Kevin M. 37,944
Dale R. 37,082
Stephen M. 33,375
Tom W. 33,336
Alan C. 32,078
Jim D. 32,047
Winston T. 28,416
Bobbie Z. 26,000
Bill M. 19,755
Ken C. 19,676

Mark O. 9,000
Guy B. 7,878
Joey W. 7,356
Yisroel H. 4,786
Mary H. 1,210

Keep up the outstanding work, and I will touch base next week. Feel free to share your personal goals and how close you are to attaining them.

Greetings to all of our busy rowers! With just a few days left in the Virtual Team Challenge, a lot of our teammates have really stepped up and delivered some impressive meters! John S. from Illinois continues to lead the pack with 370,461! Bel C. continues to restore my hope in the younger generation by posting 109,375 meters at the age of 15! Fred M. and Josh O. have both surpassed 200K meters with 258,861 and 226,997 respectively. Here's the entire list of your impressive accomplishments:

John S. 370,461
Fred M. 258,861
Josh O. 226,997
Mark S. 193,407
Randy F. 180,000
Me 176,170
John W. 166,268
Karen O. 152,000
Jim C. 150,000
Ray W. 145,052
George M. 143,614
Doug D. 130,387
Warren F. 130,254
David R. 116,000
Bel C. 109,375
David H. 107,103
Dale R. 98,136
Gabi H. 89,500
Dan S. 87,700
Glenn Y. 89,594
Lee W. 71,863
Stephen M. 65,958
Tom W. 63,447
Bob W. 62,194
Bobbie Z. 57,000
Adam M. 57,000
Kevin M. 53,084
Winston T. 46,938
Fred J. 42,839
Bill M. 35,009
Alan C. 32,078
Jim D. 32,047
Ken C. 30,870
Jack F. 27,926
Robert E. 10,000
Mary H. 9,210
Kristin C. 9,052
Mark O. 9,000
Guy B. 7,878
Joey W. 7,356
Yisroel H. 4,786

This is a great time to reflect on how far you have come this month and also focus on where you want to be in the future. I initially wanted to get to 230K meters and surpass 1 million meters by the end of the Virtual Team Challenge. I feel very confident that I will surpass the 1 million mark for the season and should also come close to my goal of 230K for the Virtual Team Challenge. As I continue to transition from being a runner first/rower second to rower first/runner second, I need to focus more on my diet playing a larger role in weight management. US Army Chaplains don't get any special "dispensations." I need to be just as physically fit as any other Soldier--even at the age of 56. Keep on rowing and keep on sharing your success stories!
