We're on our last orbit before touching down on the lunar surface!!

Image Day 9 of 32... and we're in 8th!

Lots of big team meter uploads in the last 48 hours - and we're hanging on in the 8th spot. Overall, not that many people are participating in this one in the Concept2 universe...there are a little over 3000. Considering that we draw about 20,000 for the Holiday Challenge, you have to wonder if Spring Break Fever is sweeping through the Concept2 universe. If you want to rank in the top ten percent of all individuals participating, you'll need to be at about 85K contribution level after 8 days.

Image Day 23 of 31....got grit?!

We have touched down on the lunar surface...again!

Whoop, whoop and what a great day for our fourth virtual lunar landing! Thanks to ALL Lunies who have contributed to this effort - it is a long journey best completed with good teammates!

From earlier this year: Our team is 16 years old! The Lunies were founded in 2003 by Matt Forsbacka, who worked for NASA. His goal was that we should row enough meters to get to the moon! It took the Lunies until 2011 to accumulate enough meters to make our first virtual lunar landing, but March 1, 2011 was an awesome day. We liked the lunar landing so much that we've done this two more times through the accumulation of 384,000,000 m. Naturally, this means the team has erged over ONE BILLION meters since its inception. Good stuff!

Our fourth and current lunar journey began in 2016, shortly after we teleported back to Earth once we had made our third lunar landing earlier in 2016.

Image

We've touched down at our virtual lunar landing site on the shores of the Sea of Tranquility once again. It's our fourth landing since starting the team journeys 16 years ago. When we first landed in 2011, we wandered around the geographical features of the moon for awhile, and then contemplated rowing (because rowing was our only choice) back to Earth. Now, once we reach the moon, we teleport back...and start all over again. Our fleet of lunar vessels has diversified over the years, and there are many ways to get our meters done.

I have been asked how we will celebrate. I don't have a set answer for that! If you have a suggestion, throw it out to the team! An idea that I am exploring is a virtual lunar landing pin somewhat like what we get from Concept2 for the Holiday Challenge. :D I do say that while we will track meters for the rest of the 2019 season, which ends on 30 April, we will call those exploring the moon meters. Our next, and fifth, lunar journey will start May 1, 2019.

Neil Armstrong and the guys did it in way back in 1969 and we did it for the 4th time (my first time contributing) in 2019 - 50 years later!

Nice!

Congratulations all.

Hey guys.
Well I had a good run in March. I set two new world records for the visually Impaired over 50 category. I placed third in the world sprint so a medal is on its way and I got the first 17 days of the Mud in too. Then it happened. After a nice 10 to 15 minute warmup I did a 4X500M rest 1 minute that I rather enjoy doing and was 1K in to my cool down and my lower back seized up completely. It was all I could do to get off the pony and swagger to the shower. By the next morning I couldn’t move. That was Sunday. Now 5 days later I am able to move and I’m getting there. Sorry I won’t be able to finish the old Muddy. I am now hoping I will be well enough to compete in the goal ball tournament March 30.
I also learned that me and my buddies all over 50 years of age are playing in the competitive level. This means we are going up against some of the best and youngest players Ontario has to offer. Can anyone say ouch! I wanted to play in the recreational division. In goal ball we shoot the ball under hand and the other team has to stop it with their body. Ok, I’ve seen some of these young pups shoot. It’s going to hurt. I’m hoping my back is better, why? Haha.
There’s the Mighty Thor update for now.
Keep on rock’n and roll’n my friends.

Lots of lots of icing and gentle stretching and tens shocking and just doing laps around the *** DELETE - SPAM *** table.
Oy. Sorry about your back. I am glad that it is on the mend.
See if you can try avoiding hurting it more playing goal ball :?

Image Day 12 and we're still 8th !

The World Erg Challenge, the last team challenge of the 2019 Erging Season, always seems to behave a bit differently than other team challenges. In the past, it has had fewer participants worldwide than other challenges. Current participation is at 4100 individuals - compare that to the over 20,000 who showed up at Reindeer Central aka the Holiday Challenge. If you've accumulated greater than 100,000 m in the WEC, you're in the top ten percent of all contributors. Whoa. Go get em Lunies!!

Image Day 26 of 31 !! Will a Lunie finally win a Challenge prize today?! Stay tuned.

Image

Hooboy, we had some happy Lunie mudders yesterday! Yep, 8 Lunies (including one sheep) crossed the milestone finish line on the first day this could be accomplished ! Well done and keep going!
