Betting that more than a few teammates watched episodes of Gilligan's Island in their kidhood, so you might be familiar with the lyrics of the theme song...and how it all starts out...

Just sit right back
And you'll hear a tale
A tale of a fateful trip.....

I spent a lot of hours in a vehicle over the previous Fri-Sunday. It was a worthy mission, yet there was only a short window of travel time. So we pushed through the hours, and didn't stop a lot. Since my knee is crappy, I moved around less and didn't get out at petrol stations every time. The consequences became obvious yesterday... DVT at two sites on left leg, and blood thinners immediately...and no knee surgery until this is resolved. It will take time. I tell you this to remind everyone of how important it is to get up and move around when you are traveling. It didn't matter how many miles I have walked my dogs...sitting too long and not moving has delayed a knee upgrade and my opportunity to be bionic. And I created this issue. There is dark humor in having your knee replacement leg be the "good" one.
Some life lessons truly tick you off. On the plus side of this, I should have less issue with the Holiday Challenge than I was expecting. But darn it and other words.

Oy! I'm really sorry. I glad nothing worse happened from the DVTs. I wish you the best on you recovery, and future bionification.

Dogs know .

Thanks for your words of encouragement - I know you are all looking forward to my bionification as much as I am!

Meanwhile, you'd think it was throwback Thursday. Shortly before 5 AM, the two K9s got very excited ... they wanted to go outside in the worst way. Then the wave of Pepe le pew hit. Ooof. Shut the windows quick! Must be time for the August migration through the neighborhood. Kai was skunked on August 25 a couple of years ago - some things you just don't forget easily. She obviously doesn't think much of it as she was ready to go out and take on the skunk once again. Ah...dog days and dog nights.

Image 35 Lunie finishers!! Well done!

There are a lot of small mountain communities in Colorado, and many are within an hour's drive of Denver suburbs. One of these is Indian Hills, a community of about 1000 independent minded residents. Take a minute to read about the signs one Colorado man posts on the community center sign. There are some laugh out loud ones! And, while you're at it, read about the plunger marked pop up bike lane!

Image Sign on...sign on...

Other signs of Fall are popping up, too....the first splotch of yellow leaves appeared on some of the trees about 10 days ago. Time to map out your leaf peeping routes so you can fit these bike rides or car rides in while we erg through the Fall Challenge!

Another near Pepe experience this AM! Been checking the yard environs before I release the hounds, and was about to mentally declare an all clear when I heard the sounds. There, under the tree, she (bigger so think she is a she skunk) was rooting around. Naturally when I shined the light on her, the dogs (and cat) saw her clearly.

Those who tent camp know that the stars are usually bright, the night sounds can be spooky (was that a bear?!), and in the morning...the birds are very noisy. Sometimes it's the birds called camp robbers, and today it could be blue jays. What a racket those things make!
