I believe that they will be spending two months in NZ, visiting with friends. Apparently the weather in NZ at this time of year is better than it is in Cleveland, Ohio. :D

Happy new year all

Thrown in a time for the CTC, the 3rd boat floats.

Interesting one, I put alot into the first one!!

As Rick says, blokes need to get on that boat

It was a warm up for a 1 min attempt and that turned into a PB, so there is some rowing form in there somewhere

I'm glad to have got an entry into this month's cross-team challenge as I'll be concentrating on running for the rest of this month.

It was far from my favourite challenge as 20spm is well out of my comfort zone. In a race I can stay over 40spm for 2K and over 50spm for 500m so low stroke rates never feel good or efficient for me.

I ranged from 57.6s to 58.6s, good enough for boat 3.

had a good run last night whilst training with some young dragon boaters who need some help with there erg times.
managed all 6 as 55.x .....BUT second one was @sr21!! It helps to have some showoff opportunities.
Had to correct that this morning solo but first was slowest @58.2 - will try to get back to the 55s before the end of the month.
one of the younguns (30 +) made the mistake of having a go at the challenge so he is in now!

You used 19 strokes and everything below 55.7 will turn into a r21 interval.
With 19 strokes you need to make sure to stay over or equal to 55.7 or you are only allowed for 18 strokes, what inevitable makes you slower.
That shows the stupidity of the challenge this month.

Good to see all the participants on the Virtual Team Challenge (saw a few names that I hadn't seen for a while). We already have 10 folks with >200 km and 25 folks >100 km - and a handful more who are on pace to hit the 100 k mark by the end of the month.

Well done to all who took part. There are still a few more days to get those last km's on the board!

. . . and a big hand for top Flyer meter totals rowed by James “Gymbeau” Slipetz, Harry “The Hamster” Saisa, and Hans “Half Marathon King” de Kruijff.

Thanks for the shout-out Anna Rae and Jack. The Flyers finished in 41st place this year--we were 36th last year in the VTC.

Nice job everybody.

It looks like we lost Simon Lamba, who was always a top meter contributor, to another team. We would have finished much higher with his effort--and so it goes.

Fellow Flyers:

Just in case you didn't see any of the notices on Facebook or on the CTC Forum, the Cross Team Challenge has a new website on insideindoorrowing. Everyone will need to register on this new site before they can enter their fabulous scores for this month's 2k. If you go to the current website, their is a link to the new website. You can select a "Discovery" membership in InsideIndoorRowing which is free.

Once you have registered, suggestion is to logout and then log back in and then go to the CrossTeamChallenge page. You will need to select your category and team again before you can enter your first score.

Other than that, the rules for the CTC are still the same.

So far, only Lindsay and myself have entered scores for March. Hope to see a few more entries during "Mud Season"

I'll be doing a 2K race tomorrow in Massachusetts, and feel fortunate that the CTC chose this month to have 2K be the challenge.

Then I'll try to tackle the new website to get it entered.

Smooth transition and very easy signup courtesy sponsor British Rowing. I’ve been doing 5-7k of easy UT2/UT1 with 2 days off so I didn’t enjoy this 2k one bit. I took 2:19 av as a target (my threshold of AT power about a decade back). I struggled and failed to get in sight of that pathetic goal. Rewarded with return of sciatica left hip and quad the past two days. Ordered a bottle of B-12.

@Yankee Runner: Congratulations on your USRVINC medal(s), Rick.

⬆️My bad, Alexandria National Championship was in person onsite. Having trouble with very weedy acronyms + old age.

It's been a minute, life had me throw any semblance of a schedule/routine out the window for a good while. I was just thinking about how I never hit the 2k goal I wanted, then I randomly log on to see the CTC is a 2k - it's a sign.
