Calculate your 2k from any ergo...

Post by peikingd » January 7th, 2009, 7:44 pm

Surely there must be a way to use all the information from the on-line logs, anonymously if necessary.
I have seen many of these requests on-line and am just wondering if there could be a more efficient way.
I personally would like to know how I can compare an 8x500m with 2 min rests (1:39.9 ave) to a 2k test...

Yeah, there are lots of posts estimating how you'd do given other times at various distances. Good mental exercise. Why not just go do a 2k piece and see what you get?

I have been told by an ivy league coach that the 8 by 500m with 2 min rest can be used to estimate a 2k. you just average the splits on those pieces together and you'll get an estimate of what your 2k split would be .. or at least a goal you could shoot for if your not sure what your 2k should look like.

I think this is close to true. IMO, however the rest should be shorter. I usually use this estimate with a rest of 1:40. I find that with a 2min rest you're just able grit out more per 500m, than you would be able to in a 2K race. With only 1:40 rest you still are hardly recovered and are still in more aerobic deficit.

Just my opinion but also found it true in my experience.
