Need to find a gym with ergs in San Jose, CA

Post by Citroen » January 17th, 2009, 9:52 am

I've got a seventeen day trip to the IBM Development Lab in Silicon Valley, CA. Starting Feb 7th thru 20th then by a bit of clever flight planning, ending in Boston on the w/e 21st/22nd (how convenient was that).

I've booked into the Holiday Inn 399 Silicon Valley Blvd ,San Jose CA 95138 US. According to it's website they don't have a C2 ergo in their fitness room.

If I'm going to get anywhere near a season's best time at the CRASH-Bs I really need to find a gym with C2 ergos that I can use for the two weeks in and around San Jose. I'm planning on going sightseeing to SF on the middle weekend.

I'll have a rental car so distance from the hotel won't be a massive problem. As long as I don't do excessive mileage.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to a convenient gym that isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg for a short term membership or a daily entry fee.

Dougie,

Have you checked out this:(?)

Edit: I see that the site just provides the form and not the page for San Jose that I had on the screen when I copied the URL. I had entered San Jose, California, USA, and a 25 mile limit. A page came up that had quite a few listed, including the YMCAs that I mention below.

I am not familiar with the details of the San Jose environs but you can get the distances from your hotel from any of the net mapping services. I notice that there are a couple of YMCAs listed. Those are usually available for short terms at reasonable prices.

I live in central California and could offer mine, but it is on the opposite side of the state and it is a looong way to San Jose, especially since there is a long mountain range in the way and the passes are all closed up tight for the winter. Now if you were visiting the SETI installation, it would be a different matter. It is only about 4-5 miles away across the Owens Valley. I can see a couple of the antennae there from my back yard.

If you don't find on convenient you could also look for OTW rowing clubs. I think BIAC is in Foster City, Redwood (in Redwood City?) and perhaps Pacific Rowing club.

You could use mine but I'm an hour and half away in Berkeley. It would be fun to train with you some time since our times are mostly within a couple of seconds of each other.
