Hi,
I have high arches, and what happens if I wear innersoles with a lot of arch support the sneaker gets thicker in the heel.
So I have been using some Teva slip on shoes with an Ortholite sole. They are wonderful, and worked for a while. But now I am rowing more vigorously; and I am getting some pain in my arches.
I was hoping someone would have a suggestion
I could try.
High arches and indoor rowers
I had surgery on both feet. I use custom arch suppoots in athletic shoes. Putting the arch supports in the shoes raises my heels so much that then the stiffeners in the back of the heels give me blisters. So I cut into the heels, cut down the plastic, and sew them back together. And I slit the front part of the shoes where my bunions are.
Bottom line, experiment with different arch supports, and modify a pair of shoes if necessary.

I have high arches and never use arch supports.

Try rowing shoe-less, to see if that hurts. If it does, then you definitely need the arch support, if it doesn't, try with shoes without support then with varied padding.
It should not hurt your arches if you have proper technique and are first pushing with your calves/toes then slamming with your heels, then the impact and pressure are greatest on the ball of your foot rather than the bridge of it. Do your heels lift off the plate as you come to the catch?
