2k strategy

Post by ArmandoChavezUNC » March 1st, 2009, 11:03 pm

I have a 2k test to determine who gets to seat race for certain boatings and I was wondering what strategy people feel is the best to use. I know this has probably been asked a lot of times but I haven't seen a poll for it.

I always try to maintain the split I need over the whole piece right from the start, which usually doesn't happen since my goals are pretty high most of the time. So I keep that split as long as possible and just hold off until the end. I know negative splitting is a common practice as well as as others, so if anyone wants to share any tips or ideas I'd love to read them.

I followed the Wolverine Plan race strategy for the Crash Bs. 800m @ goal pace + 1, 600 @ GP, 400 @ GP-1, 200@ whatever you got. I ended up with my goal pace almost exactly, and was very happy with the way I felt at the end.

Good luck.

I do 1500 at GP then -2 for 300 then last 200 all out. Although it didnt end up like that, that was my plan. i was going for 7:10.

went something like this:

1500m: 1:48.5
0300m: 1:47.0
0200m: 1:35.0
_________ ___
2000m: 1:47.8

pretty successful, doesnt work for everyone though.

I got a PB at CRASH-Bs. 7:08.7 (1:47.2 ave)

This was my pacing: 1:47.3, 1:47.2, 1:47.1, 1:47.1

The stroke rate went up ( 34, 35, 38, 40 ) to hold my ave. pace.

I'm proud that I didn't slow down, and I gave a 100% effort.

Magnificent. And quite inspirational, given that you're only slightly bigger and younger than me.

What damper setting did you use?

Do you fine-tine the damper to get the drag factor the way you're accustomed before the race?

Thank you. Yes the drag factor is on the monitor before the race starts, so you can make your adjustments.
I set it low for the race. The drag factor I used was 112.

For my 2ks, I hold my target split, and then the last 500m I absolutely go for broke and empty myself completely.

The last 2k I did I held about a 1:38 for 1500m, and then pushed it down to a 1:36 for the next 300, and about a 1:30 for the last 200. Needless to say, I was beyond spent after I was done.

This eliminates my need to worry about the split, and I can just focus on keeping my split exactly where it needs to be. The mental aspect also plays a big role in this method, because it's all pain tolerance, which my coach is a big believer in.
