Ok I have logged 1.2 million meters since Jan 1 2010 when I first started rowing. For the life of me I cant sit on this seat and row more than 9-10k without stopping and giving my back side a break. It is absolutely killing me. Just the left side. I have tried the seat pad that is sold thru C2 that has the cutouts but that has not really helped. I have sat on buble wrap, gel, and anything else I can find to give me a little relief.
How do I get through this! is there a trick that I am not aware of? I took this up to get healthy, lose weight and now would like to progress to a half marathon and maybe more but cannot sit on my butt that long!!!
Just wanted to add that I do have one leg that is approx 1/2" shorter than the other and it is my left side. Maybe that is the culprit. Maybe I should put a 1/2" lift in my shoe or on the foot plate on that side and see what happens !!!
Any input !!! thanks

Re: Sore !!!
HiI'm new to rowing but have a strong running background, bottom line, repetitive motion exercises are common in all endurance sports. In all honesty, you've been putting in roughly 100,200 meters a month and you just started. You admited to being out of shape to start with. My guess is your motivation is stronger than your body can take right now. I would suggest 2 weeks of rest (or some sort of cross training) and then hop on the erg and see how it feels.
Secondly, perhaps you leg length differential is the culprit, however I don't know if 1/2" is enough to be too serious, one of the best American distance runners our country has seen, Steve Prefontaine, had a leg 1/2" shorter than the other and he had no noticable injuries except from overtraining.
By all means try a shoe insert but my guess is after 10 strong months your body is tired and needs a rest cycle.
My two cents,
Garrett

Re: Sore !!!
You may have piriformis issues. Consider some piriformis stretches or stretches for sciatic issues. I have this problem and stretch after each workout. Also I use the JL sorbothane seat pad. And yes the leg length difference could also be a contributing factor.

I think you may have hit the nail !!! I have had Sciatic issues in the past but have mostly been relieved by the loss of 42 pounds since I started rowing. But this may be an underlying issue that I will have to look into.
Thanks
