30 minutes capped at 20 spm

7626 metres
1:58.0 av. pace

This is a new Lightweight PB by 0.5 and only another 0.6 to go and I'll have beaten my old heavyweight PB!

Looks like I'm recovered from the 2k at last Saturdays British Championships but it's taken a few days!

First time on the erg for over a month. Got it out and put it together, the bottom support bolt had snapped so wouldn't go together. Not sure how long it's been like that as I never split it into two pieces. Got the old bolt out of the sleeve and had some threaded bar to hand which will do for now. Tried to set up a 30 min session and battery was flat, didn't have any new ones to hand so just settled for 400 strokes which would have been r20 because it took 20 mins

Will probably take six weeks to get back where I was a month ago.......

Easy week. 5000m in 19:17.9 for 1:55.7. Capped at r24, as that is my weakness.

Cardio wise, I did 5000m at 1:50.9r30 with reasonable stress on Tuesday. This power output felt much harder to me, so will work on this from now on.

Some abs, stretching and bouldering. The moves on real boulder problems still impossible, but slowly feeling a little better.

10,000m this morning, at r23, 2:03.7 but more importantly I broke through the 1,000,000 metres - started rowing in late March this year.

I know it's an arbitrary number but it does feel good and somehow makes me feel like slightly less of a novice than I actually am. Still feeling my way around but making progress I think.

I think I might be addicted because I keep thinking about how I can fit in more rowing in between work, family etc. Now thinking about shed erg.

Well done Rod, you'll smash that time soon enough.

@ Jimmy, Hahaha, you are addicted. To realise that you have got to 1 million metres takes enough attention to prove it. Well done on the milestone. Two million won't be long the way you're going...

10000m - 40:23.1 - 2:01.1 - 18.1

2000m - 8:00.0 - 2:00.0 - 18
4000m - 8:08.6 - 2:02.1 - 18
6000m - 8:09.2 - 2:02.3 - 18
8000m - 8:07.4 - 2:01.8 - 18
10000m - 7:57.8 - 1:59.4 - 18

Another 10k, this one felt a lot easier (unsurprisingly). My average heart rate was 170 with a peak of 189, so this was harder than my usual steady state but I don't think I could call this AT so I guess it was at the faster end of UT1. My SPI was just shy of 11 (which I'm pleased with) and for the last 1000m or so I was pulling sub 2:00 without a noticeably increase in my stroke rate.

Good session Tom. Love the 18 SPM. But surely HR 189 gets you into AT/TR territory? Otherwise you’d be looking at a pretty monster MHR.

Ah good point, the final fast 1000m was probably AT, until then my heart rate was sub 180. I suppose what I really meant was this wasn't a maximal effort piece and there wasn't a noticeably build up of lactate.

Thanks by the way. I need to get a few of these under my belt to rebuild my confidence. Then I'll start increasing the distance.

What df do you do your various pieces on? I am still trying to find my sweet spot. I usually train at 130 but sometimes do low rate power strokes much higher (170-ish) and for fast TT I go down to 120. Not really sure that there’s any method to my madness and would value guidance or thoughts from anyone. Or even just a straw poll on what you all train at.
