I won't be there. My hatred of "ergattas" knows no bounds. Best of luck though!

I joined a club on BHR so I'm back to training for OTW races!

The skierg is an incredible workout. I can say that being small/light/short is a greater disadvantage with the skierg than it is with the rower. The drive on the skierg is 100% upper body. Mass is king here.

I did a brief check on the 1K rankings and I couldn't find one profile that would qualify for a ltw rower. :(
Takes some time to build strenght, think it just like the rower, the more lean mass the better. If an olympic skier would put in results we would be amazed and those guys are not heavy. Its a matter of getting the rating up. And thats more fitness than strenght.
Of course the CC skiers would have great scores, but, they still would not be able to beat big, strong fit guys like Sam Loch and the like in shorter distances. Even more so than rowing the weight penalty is only a factor when actually dong the sport. That's why CC skiers, while strong are still relatively thin and light.

Not on 1 min or shorter, but from 1k and up they do. Seen the olympic sprints? Roughly 1500m those guys are beasts and fly.

On average skiers way indeed less, but lightweight rowers do pull sub 6... An italian guy pulled 6.02 at 69kg.... Most 5.40 guys nowadays way low 90kg, not 110/120 like Sam now.

Skiers are on average 180 75 kg. Thats not super light. No doubt some guys are 190 plus and 85 or more kg. Fat% are very low

Steady State today again. 6K on the rower @ 2:08 or so (23 SPM) and then 22 minutes on the AD Pro (airbike) at 227 Watt average, back to back. Probably just a bit too hard for me for UT2, but I'm working toward getting more comfortable being uncomfortable for longer distances. The Air Bike is really helping keep my mind off hating the long, hard(ish) efforts as much because it's a nice change of pace.

Want to start going after some 5K/10K soft PBs soon this year. Getting myself amped up to attempt what I hate most!

Bill, what club are you with? Sounds like you made the "big time"! I'm chomping at the bit to get back OTW. Unlike most, I still love the erg comps.. Looking forward to going up against the Swan Creek 60+ guys, curious to see how I fair on the erg (they'll all eat my lunch OTW!). I'll be looking for you on the Schuylkill this year. I'm planning a full OTW race schedule for 2018, mostly 1x and mixed 2x with my bff Marianne. She's total hardcore; likes to dig deep and dig hard. My kinda girl! See ya in a few weeks.

I have slightly aggravated my back and I'm still not feeling 100% so I wasn't sure what to expect from this morning's session. From the start I surprised myself and decided to neg split to halfway and pushed it to 18mins to align with the 6mins splits. After a few mins I knew my back was holding up so decided to ramp it back up again for the last 6min split.

Happy with the result although with hindsight I probably should have maintained the pace throughout. It's a good benchmark to beat for next week

It's a CTC score Lance (and a good one Lindsay for not going all out!). It's this month's challenge. You should join an online "club" and do them, they are a fun distraction. Forum Flyers, many more groups to choose from (Fitness Matters, Sub 7 many more). Really solid 7K too!

I still have to do my CTC for the month. Was planning it today but might put off until Sunday. Might do the ITC instead (30' @ 20 SPM) today.

Great row Stu!

I started training with the Undine guys. I have to wait another month until I can officially join though. We've been getting lots of rain lately so the river may be too high some days to go out... we'll see...
