Nice one, Rod, as usual.

My turn for the 4 x 1k R5'. Part of my Pete Plan, but it's a hot topic here...

I fought the beast and the beast won :? .

Decided to aim for 2:01 pace, as I'm hoping to get under 8min for 2k after this whole sufferfest. Managed the first in 1:57 and the 2nd in 1:59, but knew I was well into the red. The third I started out around 2:01, but let go at 800m and coasted in pulling around 2:15. Predictably, the 4th went pretty much the same way. Ended up like a fish on the river bank gasping for breath. Another chance in three weeks - shooting for a more reasonable target.

As well as that, my electronics went mad. The iphone tried to talk to the Tickr via Bluetooth, which was connected to the PM5 by ANT+ and the earbuds lost the plot too. So, no heart rate, no music and no validated session (no loss, in this case...). Felt quite grumpy after all that :x .

You did great! Doing at 2K pace is a major achievement - as HJS says this means your next 2K target should be a second under this pace.
Thanks Keith but I've never in the 13 years I've been competing on the erg been as much as 1 full second apart on these two, I'm usually about half that so it suggests I should be looking to maybe get under 1:43.0 pace for a 2k very soon and that would improve my seasons best 2k from 6:54.2 to 6:52.9.

I've still then got to add a second for reaction time at the start of a venue race as opposed to at home where I start the clock the clock starts me.....so more work to do yet if I'm to have any chance in my next race....which will be the world championships on the 24th of February... I'd better get on with it!

Hobbit..........Thanks mate and better luck next time....maybe a little slower to start then neg. split....energy conservation is vital on this bugger of a session!

Nice session Rod, I never did that session anywhere 2k time, you're looking string right now.

First proper session for me on yet another come back  Joined a 30 min on Rowpro with a flat 1.57 r22 as the target.

30 min - 7702 - avg 1.56.9 - r22

06 - 1530 - 1.57.6 - 22 - 145 end HR
12 - 1538 - 1.57.0 - 22 - 152
18 - 1540 - 1.56.9 - 22 - 156
24 - 1542 - 1.56.7 - 22 - 161
30 - 1551 - 1.56.1 - 22 - 162

Just eased into it was not too bad, end HR sky high but will as always drop once fitness comes back.

Had a call from the hospital yesterday telling me I was down to have a 10 year followup colonoscopy back in August 2017 but they didn't have funds to carry these out  She said they now had funding and could I come in Sunday at 8.20am to have it done  That's my weekend gone then

My older brother just had his prostate removed yesterday, over 5 hour op but home today. Fingers crossed they got everything.

It's no fun getting old............

Not sure it is quite that bleak Nick - there are compensations I reckon and a good training session is always "fun"

There would be quite a few posting here seeing 61 as their younger years. Hopefully, the next decade will be kind to you. 60 to 70 can be a bit of a rough haul. The mind is willing but the body does not go along at times.

Aborted 10K last night... got a stitch on my right side at 5k and pulled the plug at 6k...

6005m / 23:18.6 / 1:56.4 / DF 160 / SR 26 / SPI 8.53

meh... I should have gutted it out at 2:00 pace to the finish but decided to save myself for a Saturday weight session instead...

My thoughts exactly Jim (and Nick). Spend some time around Masters Games and be amazed - or simply try too keep ahead of my training partner Terry Dargan. If you have a look at the VTC rankings for this month my erg buddy Vincent Home (in the Ancients) is well over 100ks so far this month - he is 93y and pretty much blind and deaf. (and they wont be "junk" meters either).

10k Time Trial

Time...............36:50.8
Pace...............1:50.5
DF..................110
SPM................34

All time PB ( faster than when I was but a young Hwt in my 50's! ).

Top of the world 60- 69 Lwt rankings for the current season and 3rd on the world all time list for the category.(not that I'm a showoff of course.. )

This was supposed to be 1:41/1:43 starting pace 1:39 for second rep and all I have got for last rep.

I was procrastinating for a few hours this morning about whether I should do it at all so I'm happy with how it turned out as it's one second under my current 2k PB pace.

I'm hoping for a 6:30 2k in three weeks tomorrow at EIRC so I need to do more of these painful sessions, which seem to be getting a little bit easier

Friday afternoon intervals as 750, 500, 250 for two sets. About equal rest. I was pleased with the results—no splits above 1:48 and down to 1:42 for the short pieces. Two more weeks of prioritizing speed and then a sharpening and tapering week. Finished with deadlifts at 205 pounds and bench press at 135 for 3 X 5. After five successive training days I’m now taking a few days to snowboard in the mountains with the family. Back to it on Monday.

Ur killing me Rod... lol... I'm struggling to crack 39:30 mins this season...

Today's session...

- 2500m warmup / 10:00 flat / 2:00 / DF 145 / SR 21
- 60 mins of full body mixed weights (on machines)
- 2500m cool down / 10:24.9 / 2:04.9 / DF 145 / SR 21

Could have done more weights but I'll be in good shape to go again in a few days... The competition is in 3 weeks
