Had a very uncomfortable day on Wednesday, not exactly sure why, but assume due to some crap food from a birthday on Tuesday (had two pieces of cake, probably not the best decision right now...).
In general I feel some unpleasant pressure in the gut after eating. Hope it gets better next days...

Today felt good after some hours I had food, so thought to get some training in. Decided to go for 1k Skierg intervals with undefined rest to do 6/6 pushup/row and 3/3 handstand pushup/ring pullups for some horizontal and vertical push/pull. Intention was not to push it, but get into it by feel.

Code: Select all

Time	Meters	Pace	Watts	Cal/Hr	S/M	♥️
18:39.8	5,000	1:51.9	249	1157	46	168

r: 3:46	49
3:41.5	1,000	1:50.7	258	1186	47	172
r: 2:55	45
After 5 rounds I called it a day and afterwards I thought I could have done the stuff a bit easier
After having food, pressure started to flare up again... :(
Seems to be a long way back, unfortunately.

Had my frenectomy follow up this morning. Wound is almost completely healed, so nose breathing restriction was eliminated. Celebrated by having a go at 2 x 20. First workout since 2022 that I got an hour under 2:00. Short break for water and HR to go under 100 after the first 20min interval -- a little over a minute.

Ooof.

Today was the last unstructured day before starting my next block. I don't know if it was the fact that I had 6 vials of blood pulled this morning, the fact that I trained around lunch time outside in the sun and heat, the fact that I haven't done a lot of this type of work lately except for when traveling, or the fact that I added 2kg to the vest, but this was rough.

I wanted to at least do something today; I know I have a lot of erg work coming up in the next few weeks and some structured strength work as well so I opted for more of a HIIT or circuit type session. I got things done in about 27 mins total which was right about the pace I would expect, maybe a touch slow, but it did not feel easy, and I sweat, a lot. Ended up down 4.2lbs in just those 27 mins and with the sweat rate being a lot higher at the end than the beginning, I'm glad I called it when I did and made it a short session.

Weight Vest Circuit: 5 reps Pull-Ups, 10 reps Push-Ups (w/ handles), 15 reps Walking Lunges (per leg). 1 round with BW, 10 rounds with 12kg vest.

Lot of good workouts today, I'm glad to see you guys are doing well or if not well at least training hard anyway.

Discovered my one pair of non-workout shorts do not fit. Wife opined "rower legs" i.e. big quads was the reason. Was pleased with this as she is very blunt and would tell me if it was bc I was a fatso.

Well, that's not the news I was hoping to read, and I'm sure thats multiplied by 1000 for you. Do you just need to be very careful with what you eat, or are you not sure of why it happened?

Again. Crazy. 5*750m at mostly TR at 2:00 r20 is enough to destroy me. What rate did you do the 500m at?

Now that you got the sub 2 500m, why not extend this to 2000m later? It shouldn’t be too daunting as long as you train hard (in my experience).

Just be careful not to rely too much on upping the rating for speed. This is why my university selects based on 30r20 of 1:59 pace even for lightweights. As some people have said (around this) 500m sub 2:00 at r20 is the easy part. The hard part is sustaining this for 30 mins or more.

Warm up mobility work and technique work in the morning.

Strength training in afternoon. Followed by more technique work. 110kg x 6 deadlifts though my grip began failing even with mixed grip. 34kg x 6 OHP was surprisingly easy

Slow but steady gains win the day

What strength program you following?

I do like blunt talkers. You know where you stand with them.

Well done going sub 2:00. It's incremental gains like this that you need to enjoy and focus on. It really doesn't matter how fast or slow that is to someone else, it's all about what you're doing. Squeezing that into a circa 20k session is also something to be proud of.

I'm not sure to be honest. I assume my gut function is highly impaired by the antibiotics I got. So hopefully it only takes another week or two (or even some more... :? ) to come back to normal function.
Very inconvenient feeling throughout the day
Currently eating twice a day with roughly 14-18h no food to see how that influences the feeling, but not much of a difference here, yet.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. You were on a good streak of form, too... It's times like this I realise health comes first and I sometimes need to remind myself of that.

Thx Alex, it is what it is.
Last time I had some intense troubles, I needed to rest for ~2 month...really hope it won't take that long
If there would be a definitive cause, I could act accordingly, but unfortunately all gut related stuff is very vague in terms of root causes. Problems I face right now, I definitely count towards the medicine, as these are quite different to what I actually had and how it felt.
Once back to normal, fitness will come back, so that's not an issue. It's only a mental burden for me, as I would like to go hard for stuff, but my body is telling me otherwise

Very sorry to hear and wishing you the best on a quick road to 100%.

The antibiotic thing is interesting; they don't seem to impact my wife much on the few occasions she has needed to use them but they destroy me for weeks on end. The only thing that seems to speed up recovery on my end is being pretty restrictive on diet with respect to food choices and doing a bit of intermittent fasting like you mentioned - 2-3 meals per day in a 6-8ish hour window, pretty low carb (my norm anyways) and very low fiber, very much "natural", unprocessed foods.

Strategy seems very close, low carb for me as well, as usual, too.
Fiber isn't a big thing in my diet anyway, but today I decided to have some fruit during the day and zucchini for lunch with ground beef I will prepare later.
I really hope/think only needing some patience here...

3k warm up, 20 x 500m (:30 rest) @ ~10k ish power, 3k cool down.

Fairly pleased with this session as the first of the new block. I was not able to train until about 11am as my boys had TKD classes this morning so the garage was 98F by the time I started; I was a bit worried about the heat but all things considered it went well. I did this same session earlier this week and started at 231w and slowly negative split until I was at 238/239w at the end; this session was a bit less of a negative split but higher average overall as I started the first intervals at a higher pace / power. HR settled in pretty nicely after the first few with minimal drift after so I feel like I was right at the pace / power I should have been for the session and it was a bit lower than a few days ago, another good sign.
