Great result, especially for first attempt. I think it's OK for first 500M to be faster as long as still with a second or two from average - three seconds might be a bit much if you aren't slowing more in the middle. Next time a little better pacing plus more training and you can start chasing the big milestone of sub 7:00twcronin wrote: ↑July 15th, 2025, 2:59 pmFirst serious 2k for me, 7:10.6.
Quite happy about it though went out too hard on the first 500 (not surprising!). Will have to shoot for sub-7 after another month of rowing.

That's an impressive first serious 2k, especially as that first 500m will certainly have left you really struggling when the adrenaline wore off. With better pacing, I'd expect you to easily get down to 7:06.twcronin wrote: ↑July 15th, 2025, 2:59 pmFirst serious 2k for me, 7:10.6.

I remember a 2k competition I did about six years ago, and I was rowing at 1:32/33 for the first 500m and then I rapidly started to struggle and just about limped over the line at 1:48 pace IIRC. The last 1k was a blur of pure regret for being so foolish.

Well done, that's a great achievement after six years. Imo, you can go faster with a better strategy, but don't let that detract from this PB.rsliii wrote: ↑July 16th, 2025, 12:03 amI hit an all time PB today for 2000 meters at age 54. Been rowing about 6 years regularly. 6'0" 180 lbs.

Agreed, I managed an HM PB aqt your age but have not got close to 2k! I find that increasing rating when the pace is dropping helps, so you might like to moderate the rating a bit in the first 400 once up to pace. Foregoing a couple of seconds pace on the first 400 should allow you to maintain the pace in the 3rd & 4th intervals and still leave a bit for increasing the pace at the death. I think Sub 1:52 pace there when you want it.Dangerscouse wrote: ↑July 16th, 2025, 1:24 amWell done, that's a great achievement after six years. Great first 2k especially maintaining the pace after a bit of a "fly" avoiding the "dying". A bit more work getting used to holding the higher rating should help you maintain R29 or so throughout and maybe even increase it to maintain or even improve pace on the run in.
