There is internet in the hospital lobby--so I can get to the C2 website and can follow your workouts -enviously-- as I am going stir crazy. Unfortunately, the hospital computers do not allow access to e-mail. My current challenge is to figure out how to get my father-in law out of the hospital and back to Cincinnati (1200 miles north).

The only exercise until today was running "the loop" which is a beautiful run along a golf course. I'd do it at dawn (before visiting hours) and was surprised that the IP training made running a wee bit more pleasant. Or perhaps it was the flat Florida terrain. (sorry Rick, Running isn't my exercise of choice) Finding an erg was a challenge, but I got a call last night from an elderly woman who knew of one. So, this morning I managed to use it, albeit with a broken monitor. No matter how hard I worked, my speed was 4:10/ 500m..NOT pretty numbers to look at --with sweat pouring out of every pore. Not sure how it translates to an IP workout. But, it felt good to get on it and revert to the mind numbing erg zone.

Keep posting...it gives me something to read other than medical stuff and old magazines!

Hi Anne!

Took 2 days off after the 5K RowPro race and am surprised to see that my IP is ...... 3 x 1 AN?

is that ridiculous or what?

This doesn't seem like enough for any use at all. Hardly worth changing into shorts for.

I guess I'd better stick with the plan though...

Carla, I think it's called tapering.

My plan was 2x12/1

2.05.6 and 2.03.7. Faster than I've been doing UT1s, but they were few and short, so the going was relaxed.

Will, Are you feeling as though you're back on track?

Welcome aboard, Coggs.

No word from Mr. Bayko. I hope he's resting his back because tomorrow is a snow shoveling day. Unless he's down in FL, like Anne.

>Welcome aboard, Coggs<

Been posting in the "What training have you done today?" thread - but since I decided to give CRASH B's the old newbie try I've switched over to here for the next 2 weeks.

Noon fitness center workout:
4 x 500M 1' R
each around 1:43.4
2500M strapless @ 1:55
20 minutes on the weights
1K @ 1:45.5
2' r
1 x 500M @ 1:38.2
1K warm down

tonight at home:
4 x 500M 1' r
3 at 1:43.5
4th one aborted when my wandering erg was about to pull my laptop off the table
4.5K @ 1:55.5
1K cool down

Tomorrow I'm hoping P. Flack puts his back out shoveling snow. How they hell am I supposed to compete with him in my CRASH B group? He can finish and then come over and hand me my towel when I take my last pull.
If you don't try, you will never know how bad you suck.

"tapering" a new concept...

Since I've never actually followed any training plan before or been preparing to race I've never experienced it! Rowing for me has been either a)row like fury trying to get better and better Nonathlon scores until something breaks and you have to stop while you heal or b) you luck out and survive without injury until it's summer and time to ride bikes.

So I did what it said, 3 x 1 AN

289 1:43.8/37
285 1:45.2/34
286 1:44.8/33

for what it's worth. 5K w/u 1Kc/d as usual.

Bad Days at Black Rock

I haven't been able to erg since the Saturday disaster. Coughing or sneezing causes horrible stabbing pains on the left side of my middle back. Probably an intercoastal muscle. This morning, even after 96 hours without exercise, just clearing my throat of overnight junk brought on pangs in the bad spot. It might be marginally better, but I may also have adapted to making more shallow coughs or wishful thinking. It will take a full-fledged cough or sneeze to determine whether the pain is subsiding. If I can't see some definite improvement by tomorrow I'll be checking with my Doc for some Cold Laser Therapy that he said might help. He's on board with helping me try to do CRASH-B's as long as I promise to do proper resting and/or treatment after. B)

Since I got through the biggest volume weeks of the IP before having to stop I should be able to do a decent CRASH-B's as long as I can get back to some erging 5-7 days before the event. At least I'm telling myself that for now.

Coggs, good to have you. Flack is a beast, but a friendly beast. :D

Carla, Tom and Will, enjoy the tapering.

Rick

:( Sorry to hear you're still struggling, Rick. You are probably right about being able to do fine in Boston--a large percentage of your ability is mental, anyway-and you have built up a lot of fitness from the training you did complete.

Hope things clear up--keep us posted--I'd hate it if you didn't row at my first Crash B since half the reason I'm daring to do it is your encouragement.

Bad deal, Rick. Don't shovel any snow.

Look forward to seeing you at the races.

Hang in there Rick. I had an enjoyable TR 2x3min workout this morning. Like Carla said - seems too easy.

All this new snow means lots of xc skiing for me this weekend. I'll make up for the easy IP workouts and wear myself out on the ski trails.

Funny how we all get excited about beating ourselves silly for 7 minutes. More the merrier. What class are you in?

He's listed twice on the entry list. I hope that means he has to row 4,000 meters.

2 x 10' UT1 today. 5K w/u. std erg

2473 2:01.3/22
2472 2:01.3/22

targ was 2:02. Felt fine.

I feel like I have to go on half rations or something or I won't fit in my AIO on race day with this reduced training!

Carla,

Next year you can do the Wolverine Plan. As I recall, Mike C recommends less of a taper. You could keep training hard and going back for seconds almost until race day.

Thursday Morning

Shovel for 2 hours at 15 spm (shovelfuls per minute) The snow is dense or maybe I am for not paying someone to plow my driveway.
