Quick program to lower my 2k

Post by ThatMoos3Guy » February 12th, 2007, 8:03 pm

Hey, I've been taking the winter off mostly from rowing and I've been sticking to hockey and lifting. Yesterday one of my friends talked me into a 2k and possibly going to the CRASH B sprints. I took the 2k and got a 7:23, keeping the pace mostly around a 1:51/500m. I want to know what kind of work I should do to bring down my time in the next 13 days. I'm 16 5'11 and 155lb. This was my first 2k ever, before that the only erg test i'd taken was a 1500m early last spring at around a 5:36. Thanks for any help!

FYI - You only have until midnight tonight (2/12/07) to enter CRASH B. No walk on entry this year.
If you don't try, you will never know how bad you suck.

This is touchy because people will jump allover for suggesting quick fix, which is true because there really isn't one, right? That being said, a couple of times I've gone to masters nationals at the last minute. 500 on / 500 off x 5 or 7 every 2-3 days for 3-4 times helped me, but be sure to allow time to recover and taper - for me 5-7 days, before the race. Some long-slow distance on the in-between days during the 500s, and short, intense pieces during the final week before to taper.

Thanks for the advice! I'd asumed the registration would be going until midnight tonight, but it apparently went to 5:00, so unfortunately I won't be going this year. Oh well, more time for me to train for the spring then!

edit: what's a good plan if I want to lower my 2k time over a longer period?
