Form questions

Post by Cayenne » May 16th, 2007, 1:09 pm

I recently viewed Xeno's "technique" DVD. At one point he says (I paraphrase,) "Generally, when the legs are straight, the arms are bent, when the arms are straight, the legs are bent."

Xeno also talks about "supporting the back" (ie;sitting tall & "proud posture" as I understand it, as opposed to any degree of slouching,) and hinging from the hips.

My question has to do with the "hinging at the hips" part. I have been REALLY careful about this due to low back concerns. I've usually minimized the hinging. However, I don't want to shortchange myself if, done properly, this will actually be good for my back,

Is the feel desired when hinging, that there is a slight (pleasant) stretch of the hamstrings as the legs are still straight as the body hinges forward, but without rounding the back ? ( ie; maintaining neutral spine.)

I have very recently been egring with this "pleasant hamstring stretch" form, and it feels enjoyable, but I feel ( have not measured time/speed/distance yet,) that this level of attention to form "slows me down".

What role does this working the hamstrings play in low back health ?

Feedback appreciated !

Thanks,

Eddie
