DYNO force and stroke length

Post by Dreadnought » May 14th, 2007, 3:28 pm

I have been doing some strength training with the DYNO.

I have noticed that I can generate more force if I bend my knees less than when rowing.

Makes we wonder whether I would be better off rowing with a shorter stroke, i.e not bending at the knees so much.

Any thoughts?

I use the DYNO as well and would support your observation. When rowing fast I have a tendency to push the seat too close to my heels. When that happens most of the force is from my upper body coupled with momentum. Since using the DYNO and adding slides to my rower I have found I'm getting my legs much more into the motion (for years I knew I should but now I actually do). I'm 6'1" and on the DYNO I push off at the 12 setting. I generate good force and notice on the rower I now bend my legs no further than I do on the DYNO and with good results. Hope it helps to have some validation.
