60 min piece correlated to a HM

Post by dunechef » January 23rd, 2008, 8:34 pm

I did a 60 min piece this past Sunday ( 1:57.1 -- 15373 meters PR by 273 ). felt ok whole way steady splits from start. can anyone give me a good guess what a good pace for my HM should be ?? I'm still planning on trying for a 1:58 pace -- I think I could have held on for 20 more minutes on sunday under a 2:00 pace but I have never pushed pace for 80 minutes before. :o

My training is still pointing towards the Mid Atlantic Erg Sprints in 10 days so have been doing some speed work comingled with some stady state pieces - today;

5 min warmup/warmdown -- 2 X 13 min @1:57.1 -- with a 6 X 1 min at 24/26/28/30/32/34) with 45 sec rest @145.1 stuck in between the 13 min pieces

I hope to break 6:45 but I have no idea how I will row in that setting, I have never rowed in an organized competition

Hi I often row hour pieces and have rowed about 5 half marathons. My best hour row against my best half marathon row show that I rowed the longer piece 1.6 secs per 500 slower. I'm rowing just over 17 minutes extra though. I'd suggest you aim for around 1.8 secs per 500 slower.

:P

I did many 60min's and many HM's and several of them were PB attempts. The difference between the PB paces is 1.6 sec/500m

This gives me a good idea of goal pace - I'm going to shoot for 1:58 and see if I can finish strong, hopefully bringing my avg down below 1:58 -- I think I would ultimately happy with a 1:58 pace HM - we will see, after next weekend ( 2K race ) will concentrate on distance work prior to HM attempt

G'day, I find the world rankings are a great help in setting goals over new distances. For a 54 y.o. you rank @16% over 2000,19% over 10,000 and 11% for your 1hr piece. It seems you are better over the longer distance and ought to pull up in the top10% for the HM that is 1:57 - 1:58 avg splits.Give it a go!
