Has anyone tried two a days on this plan?

I normal run three times a week and was going to cut it down to two while on the PP, but haven't ran once yet this week. Did a steady 10k row this morning and was planning a run at lunchtime but the weather is too bad. So thinking about doing another even easier 10k or so this evening - more a recovery pace than anything else.

well - still feeling the muscle ache from the gym, yesterdays 4x2 was noticable on the legs, but today was the "free" hard session on the PP.
What is one to do...
2k warmup - jsut trying to ease the shoulders, pecs and triceps so they can move.

5k TT (nothing too long)

a gnats knacker quicker than my previous PB, but still not quite the magical 18mins.

30min cd @ 2:08 R20

Gym later today
followed by some OTW fun, thining about taking a racing shell out with the wife. Weather is gorgeous!!! (just a pleasant paddle, nothing strenuous)

@Luke I'm 5 weeks in and today is supposed to be my hard distance. To be honest I'm feeling a little 'beaten up' so I'm probably going to delay my hard distance to tomorrow.
You are younger and fitter than I am and have been doing large distances, so you may well find that doing extra like this helps, but do listen to what your body is telling you.

Yes, quite often I will run in morning and row in evening unless I feel it getting to be too much. I figured that running would help the cardio but not hit the legs the same. First cycle I ran some on the hard days too, but noticed a big difference when I didn't!

I suppose yes is the answer, but not most of us -- especially us Masters guys. When it comes down to it, the PP is a simplified version of the Wolverine plan. Wolverine regularly had two a days. I would say just be very cautious though and listen to your body -- I think you're pretty good about that though Luke.

Nice PB Dean! You'll go sub 18 very soon I think.

Glenn - Great work on the intervals! Glad you're still at it. Also thanks for all the mentoring you and Jack (and John and others are doing)! Fantastic advice as always.

Luke / Lindsay / Jack - nice SS work. Lindsay - always smart about recovery days (challenging but smart). Luke - I'm kind of glad you didn't hit pace! Nothing wrong with a short break either on SS days. Jack - consistent as always (also smart on the HR too).

I was really trying not to do the 4 x 2k - too busy with work yesterday so put it off til today. Then not much time this morning, so not much time to warm up, feeling every one of my 52 years as I sat down on the erg :( Last time at this was 2:12.6 r24 on the first cycle
w/u 1k variable pace, felt lethargic
4 x 2k r5'
1. 2:12.3 r24
2. 2:12.3 r23
3. 2:12.3 r24
4. 2:11.0 r25
Avg 2:12.0 r24

Might look steady, but the 1st 2k seemed endless. Got better after that funnily enough - the power of a decent warmup. Best thing about doing the 4 x 2k today - don't have to do it again for another 3 weeks :D

Nice Sanz! Believe it or not, they do get easier (or maybe you just know what to expect more). I cheated a bit and did two of them in the month preceding this thread. I was like, "damn those are as hard as I remembered them...". For a day you didn't want to do them, you improved! Nice work. Warmups are always a great idea (at least a 1K for a longer interval and 2K for short intervals).

This one is my least favourite session - endurance has never been my strongpoint and this session asks for it in spades. I'm also trying to move workouts from after work to the morning, and so far my body's fighting back  I'm sure mornings will get better if I keep at it.

Yeah I try not to be too stupid about things but I do get carried away. I think it is easier when doing a lot of 'easy' work like low slow rowing and easy running, as the recovery is so quick you feel ready to go again shortly after. It was too rainy at lunchtime to go out running but I stopped myself from rowing again and instead did half an hour or so of pull-ups, chin-ups and push-ups. And it turns out this evening I didn't have time to row at home again anyway.

Probably for the best as it is hard distance day tomorrow anyway and with my other recent times in consideration I'll probably be hoping to do 5k at 1:55/56

I really like the short breaks on the slower distance work. I think it makes essentially no difference in terms of fitness benefits, but the mental benefit and the ability to put off trying to stop a few seconds here to wipe my face and a few seconds there to try and adjust the fan while still rowing one handed etc etc ...none of which works. It's nice to just think - I'll put up with whatever is annoying me for ten more minutes then I'll stop and sort it all out at once!

Any improvement is good Sanz. Its hard to get up for each session especially when you have real life to worry about. But you did it and its in the can.
