1min PB (338m from 332m) and 1K PB (3:23.9 from 3:26.9) done too. The 1K was weirdly paced (1:40.4, 1:42.6, 1:43.0 and 1:41.8 each 250m).

Got the 4 PBs (1min, 500m, 1K and 2K) at way higher DF than usual (150 for the 2K, 165-170 for the rest), with a rather constant -1.5s/500m improvement (the 500m was -1.8s/500m).

Will try to squeeze a 5K, a 10K and, less likely, an HM TT before end of the season, even if recently I haven't trained for longer distances.
You're in great form on the shorter stuff Max . Well done. I'll have to give that higher DF a try myself! DF 150 for 2k looks interesting!

I rowed a new 5k PB during week 4 of the ErgEnduranceSeries. It‘s not official as it was a part of a 1/4 marathon. Last PB was 05.06.23: 23:17.4 at 2:19.7

Today:
Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
49:39.6 10,549 2:21.2 124 727 23 178
23:08.4 5,000 2:18.8 131 750 24 178

2:25.8 10,549 2:12.7 149 814 26 181

But I also rowed a 6k at 2:16.9 pace last summer. I have to revisit the 5k soon.

Well done Julia, and this just proves that you need to re-test as many PBs as possible

Its not often you're dissappointed with a 2k PB. But today I was. I did PB but only by 0.9 sec. Really thought I could go under 7:30 today but for some reason i just didnt go fast enough in first 1500, had problems getting the rate over 28, and really had to pull it out in last 500 to PB.

I think Stu said on another thread that if you think you're going to finish you're not going fast enough. Probably true for me today.

Will almost certainly have another go in the next 2 weeks because I"m pretty sure I can go under 7:30.

Well done Kerry, and I love that you're disappointed with this. From my perspective this is great. It's a PB and you properly powered through the whole 2k, with a really solid finish.

No wobbles at all by the looks of things, but there's such fine lines between knowing when to commit and when to play it a bit safer.

It's a well used adage for rowers, if you get to 1k into a 2k and you think you can finish, you're not going fast enough. It's very easy to say, but very hard to remember when your head is screaming at you to HD.

Sub 7:30 is definitely within reach, but for now just take stock of how far you've come recently. You've taken huge chunks out of a lot of your PBs.

5K PB, 19:07.1 down from 19:21.7.

Code: Select all

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M	HR
19:07.1 5,000 1:54.7 232 1098 27 177
1:54.2 500 1:54.2 235 1108 27 161
1:54.3 1,000 1:54.3 234 1106 28 170
1:54.3 1,500 1:54.3 234 1106 28 173
1:54.2 2,000 1:54.2 235 1108 28 176
1:54.2 2,500 1:54.2 235 1108 28 178
1:55.0 3,000 1:55.0 230 1092 28 180
1:54.9 3,500 1:54.9 231 1094 28 182
1:56.2 4,000 1:56.2 223 1067 28 181
1:56.5 4,500 1:56.5 221 1061 27 183
1:53.4 5,000 1:53.4 240 1126 28 188
A few remarks:
  • It is spot-on the -1.5s/500m improvement I've seen across my recent PBs (1min, 500m, 1K and 2K): that's a bit unexpected because last 4 months I trained for shorter stuff.
  • At the very end my HR topped at 188: I though my max was 186 (and I've seen 186 on very rare occasions) Don't know, maybe the double espresso 30min before the TT helped that.
  • I'll award myself a "Congrats, you went all out !" sticker: my HR crossed the 180 at 11:00 at crept up in the remaining 8min
  • My muscles were, surprisingly, not screaming out at all. Really not tired. Weird.
  • In the previous days I've done a couple of "broken 5Ks": like 2.5K at PB pace, then slow down and do last 500m at pace. Helps confidence.
  • Happy it gives me an intermediate goal (sub-19 5K) before the still far sub-7 2K :)
10K is next in line.

Wow, that's a great jump in sub 19 direction! Congratulations :)
Probably the training for shorter stuff helped in the sharpness and transferred to this longer piece as well!

Congratulations, that's a great improvement, especially when you were red lining for so long.

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
7:31.4 2,000 1:52.8 244 1138 28 141
1:54.0 500 1:54.0 236 1113 28 130
1:54.5 1,000 1:54.5 233 1102 28 138
1:53.3 1,500 1:53.3 241 1128 28 145
1:49.6 2,000 1:49.6 266 1214 31 154
Like the attitude to want that sub 7:30. With the strong finish I am sure you can get it on a different day.
