Yes the latest plastic handle is not great for blisters, the other big problem is its VERY slippery if you sweat allot and its easy to let go of the handle, especially if your just hooking your fingers and not gripping it tightly. Didn't really matter how I held the handle, blisters are a reality if your doing high meters.
Gloves are the go.

Ya, the first pair of gloves I tried were too thick so I went without. I haven't done any work with my hands for many years so I don't mind having them toughened up a bit.
Those rowing gloves would end up costing over $60CAD to get to my place
, but now that I know such a thing exists I may just call around locally for some.

I use baseball batting gloves. Some people get blisters, some don't. Some can overcome it, some can't. I don't row as much as I used to, so I just wear the gloves so that I'm not taping up the blisters every row. Easier. The batting gloves are thin but durable and shaped to fit around a cylindrical handle.

I had the problem when I got a new machine, the handle felt slightly sticky, and I got blisters.
An attempt to solve the problem with heat shrink tubing failed, too slippery.
I now fold and wrap pieces of household roll paper around the handle ends, it gives a great grip, and no blisters. Works best for relatively short pieces, or low intensity.

Baseball batting gloves for the win!!!
Got a pair a couple days ago, they work great. Although my hands have toughened up fluid was still building up under existing calluses on longer rows. Just finished another 10K, my third in 4 days, and my hands are feeling good!

I went with children's cotton socks, per a suggestion elsewhere on the forum. Work a treat!
